Back to the Volga

Ok i have heard about this monster of a scenario, but i thought it was all exagerated, i thought my system could handle it, because it had quite some muscle (not like Arnold but still), i thought...

Oh the foolishness of youth!

It would probably crash those computer thingies on the enterprise or something  .

My question is this? Who or what playtested this thing????? Has anyone überhaupt ever manage to play it?????

Just thought I would add, that both the Operations that came with the CD, AND the scenerio that came with the Stalingrad Pack from boots and tracks are both

FREAKING HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I imagine the operation is probably larger, but must confess that I haven't played either. When I saw the sheer size of these scenerios I was so intimidated that I didn't even try to play them.

I do intend to play them someday, though, but my computer is a little older and I dont know how it will run.

i have a pentium 3 450mz. DONT LAUGH! because even though the thing is so low powered, you'd be surprised at what it can run. Dude--it can run nearly anything! I don't know why, old as it is, but I can run Battlefield 1942 (i did upgrade graphics card) I can run Grand theft auto, I can run pretty much anything with it. So I know the scenerio will play, but I bet the CALCULATION PHASE will take about 100 years per turn.

Oh well, won't know till I try.

I tested that scenario when we were putting the Stalingrad Pack together. My computer at the time - P2/233 Mhz with a TNT2.

The turn calcs may take some time, but you should have no problems running the scenario on your rig (The Op is an entirely different beast altogether).

BTW, that test was done via pbem against Jeff Smith, and it (still) rates as one of the top 5 pbem games I've ever played. My advice, do not waste it on the AI. Get yourself a dependable opponent and go at it.

I would have to agree with Kingfish.

Even though Our backs to the Volga looks daunting in size, it is also one of the top 5 scenarios I have ever played as well. And definately play against a human and not the AI. Your tactics will change turn by turn. If you really want to experience the block to block fighting in Stalingrad and the carnage associated with it definately play this one! Put it at the top of your list.

It's big to be sure but you will never be bored or overwhelmed with the constantly changing situations. Some turns I would spend 45 minutes or more plotting, thinking, maneuvering and replotting. Never once was I bored and it is a total nailbiter to the bitter end. Definately one of the greatest scenarios I ever played. It just absolutely "feels" like Stalingrad. There is no other way to describe it.

BTW, I played this one tcp/ip with an opponent over several nights, a couple hours a night and in the end I think it took about 16-17 hours to finish. Massive yes, but a hell of alot of fun.
