Using Abandoned / Knocked Out Vehicles As Cover For Infantry

Recommended Posts

I did a search and found a thread back in January on this issue which seemed to state that vehicles didn't offer any kind of advantage at all to infantry hiding behind it (although one poster disagreed.)

Has the opinion on this changed? Has anyone found that infantry hiding behind "dead" vehicles receive an advantage of some kind?

I just ran a test using the mission editor. The only way you can use tanks as "cover" is if they are knocked out and burning. The smoke plume blocks LOS and the TAC-AI (or a human player for that matter) is unable to target the infantry squad.

I tried andvancing my infantry right behind my tanks a few times and discovered the tanks do provide more of a distraction to the AI rather than serving as real cover for my troops.

Almost every gun on the map was aimed at my tanks and left the following infantry alone (for the most part). But when the tanks were KO'ed my infantry took a lickin'.

No.. ah reckon it weren't a sound tactic, but ah had to try.
