PlatCmdr
When noticing high upon a hill, an enemy contact (the soldier icon) designated by the word "Crew,?" does this reperesent either a mortar, artillary spotter or machine gun exclusively, or could it also represent a sharpshooter, anti-tank rifleman or infantry that is miss-identified?
demoss
Sharpshooters and AT rifle teams will DEFINITELY also show up as "Crew?" PSK teams probably will (haven't observed it, but would assume so - for some reason, I hardly ever end up playing late war Russians), and tank hunter teams definitely will too. I don't believe "normal" infantry will, though a split squad might. I'm not fully sure about either of these, though.
Silvio Manuel
I don't think that half-squad will show up as "Crew?", rather they are "Infantry?". Platoon HQ's are interesting, at least in CMBO they were kinda easy to pick out... if you see 3 "Infantry Squad?" and one "Infantry?" you knew which was the HQ. Dunno how Plt. HQs show up in FOW and EFOW in CMBB.
Chad Harrison
Support weapons usually show up as crew, outside of guns and MG's. Half squads will show up as 'infantry'. Vehicles are a whole another story and I have seen 'light armor' become a tiger tank.
PlatCmdr
Great, thanks for the replies. Also, how specifically do arty/mortar spotters show up when seen as sound contacts, as they aren't "support weapons" by definition?
tar
I would expect them to show up as "Infantry Sounds".
Cpl Carrot
They show up as infanrty sound contacts. They go through the motions of firing but make no sound. Seconds later the mortar round arrives

All Artillery spotters (incl. mortar spotters) will show up as "Crew?" as far as I know.
