  1. Just curious - weren't the Italians heavily involved in the Malta campaigns?
  2. I still get lots of lost connections too - primarily when after entering a game, it doesn't start quickly, or if I try to host a game for another player. This is with the (gold) demo still, but I'm not buying if it doesn't get fixed.
  3. I've noticed a few times now that when the AI decides to attack a wingman and needs to play Maneuvering/Half Loop cards, it will play to get one more burst than it needs. I suspect that's a simple thing to fix.
  4. Any word on improvements to how networking is handled?
  5. I've seen that too - those mutants are worth their weight in gold right now.
  6. I hope you're not planning on taking wooden planes to a scrap metal piling contest
  7. I just had an odd situation come up. One of my pilots shot down two enemy planes, then died at the end of the fight. In the final scoring, my side got hammered because we got NO points for his victories (being dead, he got 0 XP). This does NOT seem right.
  8. Though this is true, it's also true that identifying anything that might cause obvious fanatics such as Skuderian to NOT buy it is presumably worthwhile to the company. Connection lost issues appear to be a big deal to a number of people, myself included.
  9. Personally, I think having the AI take over is almost punishment enough. For some, though, that might be an improvement, so just gaining no benefit from whatever happens is good enough in my opinion.
  10. Hear, hear. I'm unlikely to buy the full version if this isn't fixed. The reliability of the connections, that is. I am completely unable to host a multiplayer, and I drop connection if a game doesn't start within about 10-15 seconds after I join it.
  11. Yes, the point is that many of us feel it's far too harsh.
  12. So it's using a single deck? For what it's worth, I got two IMS 2:D in the same hand today, so either there's a bug somewhere in the demo or you've added one from the card game.
  13. This seems rather harsh - I know I've lost a good leader that way, in spite of the fact that he had passed his bailout check before I disconnected, and another because the game didn't start properly. Wouldn't it be fairer for a bot to take over the position?
  14. Oh, one other thing - if you're gearing your hand toward OFFENSE, sometimes one barrel roll and one tight turn is better than two of either. That way you can respond to either one. Not always, but sometimes. Especially true when your opponent is low on cards.
  15. I don't think so - I've already done that. I've observed traffic coming back on other ports (in the 40000 range, at least some of the time) trying to get to me when I try to host a game. The firewall doesn't know where that should be going, but I'm pretty sure it's trying to reach me from one of the DiF servers. If it actually worked reliably, it would be robust. I have port 8080 open (hardware firewall), and when I connect to a game, I have about 10-15 seconds until I get timed out if it doesn't start. I effectively can't host a game, because it takes people longer than that to find it, pick a pilot, and join. There appears to be something else going on during the pre-start phase of the game, but I'm not sure exactly what.
  16. >It is a game of attrition. Attacking wingmen simply because they only have two cards isn't always the best strategy. Unless you are pretty sure you can do meaningful damage, you are probably better off using your cards against an enemy leader in an attempt to gain advantage and reduce his cards. This doesn't make much difference in one turn, but over two or three it really adds up, especially after he is smoking and/or at higher altitudes (both reduce horsepower). Remember, you get to redraw at the end of your turn and he is stuck with the cards in his hand until the end of his turn. Though true, attacking wingmen DOES reduce the effect of the wingman's revenge effect. With the right cards (such as an excess of Maneuvering plus some IMS, and few counters) it's clearly the way to go. On th other hand - in the demo at least - I rarely bother with it against those darn American P-40Ns. Why, oh why, did they get a plane like that? An early P-38 would have been fairer and more interesting to boot.
  17. Generally poor networking robustness on the part of the program is probably the real issue. I time out after about 15 seconds if the game hasn't started. Makes it tough to get into a 2 vs 2. Other people seem to have similar but not identical issues.
  18. I believe you can get Zero! free from GMT - if you order Corsairs & Hellcats to go with it (which you should anyway). It's a real pity that Rise of the Luftwaffe is out of print, but you can encourage it to come back into print by pre-ordering it from GMT (they won't charge until they're close to shipping, IF they decide to do it - and obviously won't charge you if they don't). Personally, I prefer the European theater, mostly because the Pacific is lacking in interesting, balanced matchups. Oscar vs. Buffalo was the best I could come up with, and who wants to do that all that often?
  19. >Depending, on your firewall, you might be able to allow specific programs access to the internet. In this day and age, a networked program needs to be a lot more robust. Firewalls are a fact of life, and anything that's "depending on your firewall" isn't good. I tried watching ports to see what I needed to open up to make this thing work properly, and the conclusions I came to were 1) It's probably too many to do. 2) Even if I could, it would open me up too much. This Will Not Do.
  20. I haven't had this problems with campaigns, but I can't host games, and I have noticed that connections seem to time out very quickly (if a game isn't started within about 15 sec after I join, I lose connection). The networking is not at all robust.
  21. I got absolutely manhandled as the Russians in Royal Opponent. I managed to mishandle virtually all of my assets except for the light AT stuff, which performed heroically - but weren't exactly that important. Even when I did something unexpected that could have worked out well for me, it didn't. Two of my heavies coming up behind a few enemy mediums and getting the drop on them - result, two dead heavies. And my opponent put together a solid, methodical advance. Not a good combination.
  22. No, it was very clearly a dead crew. The vehicle was "Knocked Out" (they're never "Eliminated" as far as I can tell).
  23. Terrain exists, it's just harder to find. Try taking a CAREFUL (read: at level 1) look at the terrain coming down the djebel in Fruhlingswind. There's one quite concealed path and several moderately concealed ones. Using it to your advantage is left as an exercise for the reader. Your eye for terrain just has to be much sharper than it did in CMBB.
  24. I wouldn't know - this is the demo, since the full version is supposedly not yet available.
