That they served in NA seems to be right; Eric Grove's "World war II Tanks" includes a picture of one of these flaming, the caption of which says it is in action near Tobruk in 1941.

Unfortunately, all the sources I have (including one in Italian) seem to discuss the basic vehicle, rather than the flamethrower variant. I can't see why the flame variant should go out of service before the basic vehicle, which served in the East and elsewhere until quite late in the war.

Does anyone know a really good book on Italian armour?

All the best,

John.
