USGrant
Hubert, I have not been able to play SC for two days. It would crash immediately on startup. I even reinstalled and it would not work in versions 1.0, 1.2, or 1.3. I also noticed that some of my other programs were behaving wonkily and was at a total loss. Finally, I accidentally discovered that my system clock had somehow been set for the year 2099! So - SC will quit working some time in the next 97 years and I think you need to get on this right away!
DeadDireWolf
Mine just did it too. My PC clock said the year was 8197. I tried to start a SP game and it crashed to the desktop. I then saw this thread, checked my clock and saw the year. Have we been to Mars yet? Anyway, PBEM games will play just fine. I just loaded a buddy's turn and played it and sent it back to him. Then I (while typing this) tried to start a new game again (to double check) and it works just fine! Hey Grant - Try to play an email game or turn or something and then try to play a single player game and see what happens. If you need a PBEM game file let me know and I'll send you one. To quote Buffalo Springfield for this odd occurance..... "There's something happen' in here, what it is ain't exactly clear...."
USGrant
I saw that 8197 date as well. It seems to depend on where you look at the date - I found the problem when I went to system restore and its calendar said 2099. The clock itself said 8197 or something similar. I didn't think the problem was caused by SC, but now I am suspicious. I'll test PBEM if you like. I have not tried it yet. Send to usgrant@chartertn.net.

DeadDireWolf
Yeah Hubert. I'm serious. I have two SC installed on my machine. One with version 1.02 and the other with version 1.03. I've noticed, however, that after the intial problem and the accidental fix that it hasn't happened again. Also, I haven't had much time to play lately so I haven't noticed if there were any other problems. Other than the above incident I haven't had any more problems. I do love a good mystery....... Hey Grant, did you try it and does the single player game work now?
USGrant
Originally posted by Hubert Cater: Honestly, are you guys serious? HubertSerious about the problem, not serious about fixing it right away - if it is even related to SC. I don't think the problem (if it is related to SC) is with PBEM, I have not played that way. I was running ver 1.03 when it happened. My system is a P4 with WinXP. I think it is more likely that the problem was caused by a hiccup in time.windows.com or something like that. DDW, are you running XP and do you have automatic internet time sync turned on? DDW, I loaded your turn and then quit and went back to single player. It caused no problems other than a version mismatch and the fact that I did not have a password. The clock did not change.
Hubert Cater
OK it's funny that it doesn't work after 2099, but I don't think it's related to the game, can't honestly see how, but I guess sometimes you never know. Hubert
Edwin
The original version of 1.03 did affect my computer clock and other things. However, since I deleted the entire game, reloaded from the CD and downloaded the new 1.03 patch its been cool runnings. This excludes PBEM as I have not tried that yet.
DeadDireWolf
Sorry Grant - Been away awhile. I'm running XP but don't know about the time sync.
