I tip my hat to both of you for those excellent pictures -- I mean, for the excellent pictures Kuni's put in there, and the equally excellent ones disorder will obviously be adding shortly.

This promises to be a very interesting Conflict.

And the best part is, I can be totally impartial!

Great Stuff.

I was watching ESPN tonight with some of my young nephews while their fathers were busy depleting my stocks of liquor, and got to see the Iowa Little League Team beat South Dakota and moves on to the World Series Tournament. Now there's an omen for you!

But I said I'm going to be impartial and I'm sticking to it. -- Uhhhhhh? -- Sweden is continuing to hold it's own against that constant Baltic Sea battering -- Way to Go Sweeden!

Turn 3, october 1939

Polish campaign continues. One polish corps destroyed, another damaged and warsaw garrison reduced. The capitol will probably fall next turn.

In the west Axis declares war on the Low countries. Wild airbattles are fought over Belgium, UK have brought up the Malta air and French air is still around. Despite this Bruxells falls and axis air pounds the french airfleet.

There is a two-hexes wide gap in the french lines toward the belgian border. Unfortunately axis troops are spread to thin to be able to exploit the oppurtunity. British corps will land in France next turn.

Denmark still fights on.

POLES SHOW THE WORLD THE WILL TO WIN!

stuck in a hopeless situation, the poles have rallied around their capital, and taken a few swipes at the XVI panzer as they go by. hit by poznan corps and by PAF, the panzer group is now at 50% of its starting str!

denmark will probably fall next round. course laid in for a massive search of nw atlantic to find and destroy subs.

british aid has proved invaluable. kuni has opted out his air from eastern front, and now intends to bear down on the unprepared french.

October 29th 1939, turn 5

The polish campaign draws to a close with the capture of Warsaw. Poland surrenders and the german troops, especially the panzers of XVI pz corps can finally rest and refit.

Meanwhile Denmark also surrenders after Luftwaffe made some appearences in the air over Copenhagen.

In the west UK and french troops succesfully close the gap in the lines and scratch a german corps. UK bomber is in France, UK seems ready to defend the french soil with everything they got. Luftwaffe and german troops are reorganizing for a future attack on France. Wehrmacht formations are in good order and aware of the battles to come.

Subs still at large in the atlantic.

Turn 7, november 26, 1939

Axis-powers have now shifted all forces against the western front. The first border clash results in one french army destroyed and germans drive a wedge into the french lines. A second french line of defence prevents a further breakthrough. Allies defend with lots of air and carriers, tons of interception missions are flewn over France...surely allied air must have high casualty rates by now.

In the atlantic HMS Hood is down to 1, remaining sub will be detroyed soon.

Italy is at 95%...will join next axis turn.

perhaps fighting beyond their capability gives the germans the impression that the french are behind every rock and tree. while kuniworth mentions "carriers", he has seen only one. casualty rates for allies are commensurate with fighting seasoned pilots that were trained in spain. ;)

as for the "wedge" and the "breakthrough", no french soil is currently occupied by the nazis. the french prepare for christmas in their 1st line trenches!

last u-boot sunk by british bb. french plans accelerated for heavy tanks.hood makes some repairs, en route to secret destination. rundstedt spotted by recon approaching front lines. a daring man!

italians join amidst hulabaloo of fascism....

britishers fighting with back to wall!

If french-soldiers could celebrate christmas quiet at home this changed soon with the german new-years assault and the entry of Italy.

The axis assault commenced with artillery barrage against the british BEF which was then attacked by 2 axis armies and air. The panzers broke through and smashed the airfields of british bombers...it´s obviously not only Rundstedt that is daringly near the frontlline. German troops are however damaged by the fierce fighting, only

The allied destruction of a german corps last turn left the british carrier leave London port...the german surface fleet attacks and sinks it. Scharnhorst takes a real pounding in the process.

The mediterranean meanwhile explodes with the entry of Italy. Italian 1st army marches into France and exchange fire with the british gibraltar corps. Canadians and british formations holds a solid line though...

Next to Malta a UK BB is sunk and Ark Royal hit. Nice try laying an ambush west of Malta, but that wont work against an experienced TCP/IP veteran.

French front defence was reorganized last turn to plug the gap when strategic bomber retreated. Therefore french units did´nt have time to entrench and axis air and armies could punish them easy. 2 french armies is destroyed and german 3rd army breaks through and kill a UK air too close to the front.

Germans are within two hexes of Paris. Axis spearhead troops are down to 6-8 strength.

In the english channel Scharnhorst tries to flee and stumbles into BB Nelson in the north sea barely surviving. German sub and Gneisenau follows up and sinks Nelson, hopefully rest of Royal Navy wont be able to catch up with retreating german navy.

In the mediterranean things is calm after the naval battles. UK seem to have withdrawn towards Gibraltar, Italian fleet is consolidating it´s position.

Onward to victory!

March 1940

A couple of french unentrenched damaged corps and armies are destroyed as Germans reach the outskirts of Paris. The maginot-line is almost cut off from the main french force. Progress could be quicker but german forces are really tired by now and panzers are worn out.

France made a huge mistake not entrenching corps in Paris until now. That will mean problem for allies.

In the med, UK air is rebased to Malta. Italian fleet sails away.

German fleet retreats to homebases.

Instead of retreating or make a stand, french forces makes suicide attacks against german units, leaving a weak defence. Maybe axis should have gone directly for the french capital but tries to destroy enemy units instead. Around 4 french corps ranging from 1-6 in strength are destroyed. Only Paris garrison and one other corps still visible to axis. Important; a british carrier on a suiced mission intercepts luftwaffe which takes no damage, therefore remaining luftwaffe hits it and sinks it.

In southern France axis takes out retreating UK corps. Italians runs into a surprise attack in Marseille.

France will probably fall next turn. Had UK spared the airforce, axis forces would be easy to pick off. Strength on units are down to 4-6 but with hell of experience thank god.

In the med, Gloucester cruiser discovered in Gibraltar makin it impassable. Fleeing canadians not discovered forcing Italy to buy Rome garrison :(

Italians move on Alexandria though. Will assault city next turn.

ah yes...i could have taken paris....but i chose to take other things. ;)

gloucester hits eyetie sub at hex 19,3. warspite offers support in port, and ark royal attacks diving sub.(60%)

1st canadians land and move inland through italian population centers to capture city of bar in heel of boot!

alexandrian garrison prepares for onslought.

carrier lost off england was another allie error. off course and found itself flying sortees vs. axis's best! :D

France surrenders!!! The remnants of the Paris garrison is shattered and Paris captured. Surprisingly disorder doesn't evacuate the canadian army and just puts it outside Paris. It´s destroyed of course. 2 french corps surrenders(no axis units available to hit it to gain experience), I doubt any free french got away except syrian corps in egypt. Immediately axis armies refits and prepare to move on next objective.

Disorder didnt know it but axis airfleets have been down to 3-5 in strength for some time now. But the share amount of experience gained in combination with no air-resistance makes them pure deadly. However I was force to buy an extra airfleet just to keep up the pressure.

In the med Gloucester cruiser sunk by italian BB outside Gibraltar. The canadian corps in Taranto is trapped by transports and thus cant leave city!!! Whole italian army is moving up to destroy it.

The war so far - summary from axis viewpoint

Allies is playing way to agressive in France. Airfleets were placed in 2nd line defence, Furthermore without HQ-support and no entrenchment, allies are dead meat. Disorder is sacrificing enormous amount of UK troops to defend France, but didn'nt buy any french HQ to support counterattacks. Cheap axis corps was for instance attacked by carrier and in reach of axis airfleets and so on. UK is low on troops, air and ships now.

Axis made mistakes also but non with so serious consequenses.

UK losses so far if I recall correctly;

2 corps

1 airfleet(Malta air-force)

2 BB(Nelson, Valiant)

1 Cruiser(Gloucester)

2 carriers(Coureagous, Glorious)

1 Canadian army

That leaves 6 ships and remember that Hood was knocked down to 1, Ark Royal scratched and strategic bomber recieved heavy damage. The canadian corps is beside this facing destruction in Taranto. No free french units can have escaped with exception of the syrian corps. Allies are in serious trouble.

If Axis play this right, I doubt allies can recover. Italy joined extremly early as allies moved up Malta air on turn 1. Thats a couple of extra hundreds MMP to axis treasury.

Round 1 is over...round 2 will begin. Russia next? ;)

axis sally intercept--

in reply to AXIS SALLY INTERCEPT, Col. Hughes Williamson says,"Well, we didn't bloody well want to leave anyway, now did we?!..we came to fight!"

canadian occupied southern italy port surrounded by "eyetie floating corp armada". two italian armies coming from north. canadians reinforced garrison in city, and airfleet (rcaf) lands in hex se of city.

theory is this will cut off the only landing site behind city, and cannot be attacked except to go through city defenders. air/water attacks possible, but no italian navy close, (3 are at gibralter currently), and allies have seen no sign of an italian airfleet to this date. another italian transport is noticed moving southwest of Rome. one more is seen near alexandria, but i believe even the italians do not know their command orders. tongue.gif

as for amount of free french....we shall see.
