Mr. Johnson-- Posted September 25, 2001 Share Posted September 25, 2001 Skirts were allocated to Panzer units to deal mainly with Russiamn 14.5 AT rifles. An added bonus was their ability to break up the hot stream from Zooks. I think when you got to the heavys, their turret armor was almost imprevious to zooks and 14.5 ATRs so it was not needed. These are the areas that got the skirts. The Panther turret side couldn't be penetrated by Russian AT rifle shot, it's as simple as that. There currently seems to be an agreement, among those interested, that this was why the schürtzen where mounted.
