Check6 Posted January 22, 2001 Share Posted January 22, 2001 Has anybody made or planned to make a comprehensive list of the best ways to use each unit in CM? I would do it myself, but I'm afraid that I'm not experienced enough. If nothing like this exists, and there would be demand for it, then maybe a collaborative effort could get a quality project done in a short time. TOPIC 2: I thought of this because I was wondering if anyone uses the M1917 HMG. I never buy it because I don't see any point in not spending the few extra points for a .50. Pvt. Ryan Posted January 22, 2001 Share Posted January 22, 2001 The M1917 has a lot more ammo (150 IIRC) and would be better for supressing infantry because of it. The .50 would be better for taking on lightly armored vehicles. I am using a M1917 in a game right now and it just keeps hammering away. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Beer_n_Pretzels Posted January 23, 2001 Share Posted January 23, 2001 Hi Check6, I don't have the info in front of me, but I'll I think you will find that the M1917 is the water-cooled version of M1919. As such it is a heavier 30 cal (or 0.30) sustained fire support machine gun. This is different from the 50 cal (0.50) which actually was designed as an anti-tank weapon. I do use the M1917 because it carries a lot more ammo and it slightly more relaible than the air-cooled M1919. Just set ip up with a long field of fire and go for it.
