I didn't see the previous post on this particular error.

A .VXD is a Virtual Device Driver. Most hardware and several programs will install .VXDs in order to function with Windows. What was the name of the .VXD file that was causing your error ? This will in turn point out the possible culprit (video, sound or some program).

Schrullenhaft you are correct

a .vxd is a Virtual Device Driver, used by

applications, video cards, sound cards, basicly anything that needs to emulate a device of some kind..

-

In Windows--

Without virtual device drivers, applications could cause problems when they want to use a

system resource that is already used by another application. VxDs manage the use of

those resources (mainly hardware devices).

For instance your display driver is a piece of software that is necessary for your

operating system to communicate with your display adapter. If applications want to use

the display, they don't make calls directly on your display driver, but are controlled by

Windows' virtualization driver for your display.

Solid Snake,

Again, what kind of video card do you have? And I'd say that you may need to either update your driver or get a whole new card as to some cheap cards are just a big problem in themselves. Like a friend of mine has an Asus video card and he has been unable to play certain games because that card didn't support the game.

Don't forget that other hardware uses this mechanism, not just video eg your sound card drivers - I run with the original prototype of a Soundblaster 16 - it's so old that it's the most expensive item of hardware I have! I have problems with Blue Screens, as described, and solved most of my problems by getting the very latest and greatest drivers from Creative (excuses). Some sound mods still cause me grief however...

Hope it helps.

And finally the other side of thinking about the VXD issue, always 2 sides to a coin. http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/vmm32.html

As i have WinMe i just DL the WinMe (vxd) files adn installed them. Havn't really seen a VXD error after that.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the bed time reading smile.gif
