MoatnGator
Gunner, I think troops in the open get too much credit. I know that I could have blasted people with my M-60 but in this game I am left with suppressive fire with few kills. Close in though it seems they are more lethal. Gen. Sosaboski
Ah, Bruno! That's why my .50 cal. got killed so quickly without harming your infantry in that PBEM a while ago...My .30 caliber did better at close ranges, so now I basically just wait until their real close. I've found it works well, especially with two or three (converging fields of fire).

killa in manilla
once i had a .50 cal. at the end of a road, where it turned into woodland, there was two rifle squads coming up the center of the road and i only killed two guys in probably two minuse worth of firing. i hate the machine guns, they're worthless. mg42 gunner
I noticed the lack of hitting targets with all the types of machine guns even the mg42. That definetley needs to be fixed [ 08-28-2001: Message edited by: mg42 gunner ]

Pak40
It seems that a lot of people are thinking that open ground is completely flat with no place to take cover. They are disapointed when their MG only causes a couple of casualties to enemy soldiers in the open. What you need to realized is that open ground in CM is NOT completely flat and it may contain objects that are abstracted in the firing calculations. For instance, dips in the ground offer great defilade from a machinegun, which usually is sitting on the ground. Possible abstracted objects include things like tractors, haystacks, lone shrubs, crates, equipment. These things arn't show in CM but they are taken into account when doing the calcualtions. And no, I don't mean that there is an invisible tractor on the ground that the enemy is hiding behind. It's just loosely abstracted in the calculations. The idea is that soldiers crossing open ground will use whatever little piece of cover that is available. They will make themselves hard to hit, if possible. The question I would like to know is: Do units in second story buildings get a bonus when firing upon men in the open ground below? In these cases, the dips and folds in the ground would not be very helpful to the soldiers crossing it.

Stixx
I also believe that troops in CMBB will be alot more vulnerable to MG fire while on the run. They are putting in some new movment orders like assult? i think was one but running troops will now be alot more vulnerable.

mg42 gunner
I understand what your saying about the abstratct firing calculations but boxes and hay stacks cant stop a mg42 round. I think its safe to say that machine guns need to be made better especially against innfantary in open ground.
