Guest mch
I'll feel like an idiot if this has allready been covered... did a search, found nothing,so here goes.... I think it would be SUPER handy to click on a waypoint box(or triangle) and be able to press "L" and los check from there! Anyone else ever wish for that too? ------------------ It is no disgrace to be defeated...It is a disgrace to be surprised. -attr.to Fredrick the Great-

SS_PanzerLeader
MCH I thin this has beed brought up before and it was shot down for being to unrealistic. The basis behind this was IIRC that you wouldnt know what LOS you had until you actually got to the position in question ------------------ SS_PanzerLeader.......out
Mike D
Disregard, somehow this double posted. Mike D aka Mikester [This message has been edited by Mike D (edited 04-19-2000).]
Mike D
SS PanzerLeader is absolutely correct. This was brought up before and was dismissed as it should be. Granted it would be cool, but about as unrealistic as you can get. Besides if you go down to ground level and cruise along your waypoint path, stopping here and there to look around, you pretty much get the same effect anyway, less the computer calculated LOS. But then remember if you can see it in CM you can shoot it, so just going to that waypoint and looking towards the potential target will at least give you a reasonable feeling for whether the LOS is clear vs. blocked. Guest mch
Thanks. i figured someone had probably sugg. it before. I was thinking of it mostly as a setup option like FOW off, mostly for practicing tactics.. hull down,etc....not so much for actual play, PBEM etc.... ------------------ It is no disgrace to be defeated...It is a disgrace to be surprised. -attr.to Fredrick the Great- [This message has been edited by mch (edited 04-19-2000).]
Guest mch
Also,(didn't feel like starting a new thread) searched for this too..... (perhaps my cred.with the search feature should be called into question..) Can you PBEM a DYO battle? ------------------ It is no disgrace to be defeated...It is a disgrace to be surprised. -attr.to Fredrick the Great-

Guest mch
I can't either.... the "replay" value of CM is...well, hell,I've played the Beta more than ANY game i've ever bought..... ------------------ It is no disgrace to be defeated...It is a disgrace to be surprised. -attr.to Fredrick the Great-
SS_PanzerLeader
Yah man I'm psyched too _ I love this game, it is the best game I've ever had from ANY CATAGORY and this is the beta demo The replay value and possibilites seem endless _ I can't wait to be able to buy my own stuff ------------------ SS_PanzerLeader.......out
Guest Big Time Software
Hehe... and the people most surprised about all the play time the Beta Demo got is... Us As for the anywhere LOS tool for setup, this was suggested a while back. It is not a bad suggestion at all, but we decided against it for now as once we put that in the calls for being able to use it during the game would probably go up by a lot. And as discussed above, it gives the player far too much information far too easily. And yes, DYO games rock! I have been in love with such a game feature since Grigsby's Kampfgruppe almost 15 years ago. The really cool thing is that CM's AI doesn't care about the lack of hard coded direction and therefore is just as challenging as when playing a user created scenario (in theory anyway). I've played a few and had to stop before I got too hooked Steve

Lee
panzerleader: I think it's a very safe bet to say that we'll be playing CM not only when CM2 comes out but when CM 4 comes out. Don't forget that Steve and Charles plan on retrofitting (if at all possible) the improvements of future CM's back into the previous ones. So CM will stay state-of-the-art and still easily be the very best tactical ground combat computer game on the western front covering '44 on. So if you want to play a western front '44 on battle with the ultimate in realism, what choice other than CM is there?
SS_PanzerLeader
There is no other choice and I will be extremely suprised if there is ANY competition in the Category of WW2 games for years to come ------------------ SS_PanzerLeader.......out
Lorak
All I will say is this. Three scenarios 6 months of playing time. I've had games with 20 scenaoios not even last me a month. DEF BUNGIS
I agree Lorak... I played alot of hardcore strategy games, and none have I played the same scenarios over 1 or 2 itmes each. I bet i've played LD,CE,and RB 10 times each. There is no other War Game like it. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
Jeff
Of course there is no other game like this. It's a beauty to watch, the AI is great, the realism perfect, the histrorical contest awesome and I could go on for ever. Further more there is the Meta Campaign that will bring us to another level of palying. I know it is not BTS idea but if the support (CM) wasn't so great it would have never happened. Great job BTS. One question though : did you guys expect that much success ? You probably knew you had a hit with the combination of the above, no ? ------------------ Veni, vidi, vici Julius Caesar
