Victor Semensi
Does anyone have any info or links to sites that have info on this topic? Was there any postwar production of WWII German armor outside of Germany?

Skott Karlsson
I once remember reading that the Tigers were used in some middle east countries up till the early 50's. But I havent seen any direct info on where exactly. ~Skott Karlsson~
Forever Babra
A web search will turn up the info on the French Panthers from any number of sites. I've never heard of Tigers in the middle east. The last PzKw IVs in active service were retired in Lebanon in the '70s.

Forever Babra
My error. I said Lebanon, but Syria was the user. Here's a pic of one from the '67 war. A few were captured by Israel on the Golan Heights. ------------------ Is "patheti-sad" a word?
Guest Michael emrys
I have no idea about the French actually using Panthers in service, but it is entirely possible that they studied them prior to designing their own post war tanks. ISTR them producing a modified version of the Panther gun. P.S. I have this impression that there were some T-34/85s and SU 100s in Egypt possibly as late as the Yom Kippur war. Forever Babra
According to the "Achtung Panzer" website, the French "503rd Tank Battalion in Mourmelon had 50 Panthers in 1947 and 501rd (sic) Tank Battalion used Panthers from 1946 to 1950." ------------------ Is "patheti-sad" a word? Måkjager
I once remember reading ( and because i can't remember where i am going nuts ) that the French sent one Panther to Indo-China for trials and possible combat upon hearing rumors that the Viet-Minh had "aquired" some heavy ex Soviet tanks....sorry if this is making this thread a bit muddy , just throwing in my pennies worth. As for other "user's' the British built at least one Panther in 1946 from spare parts found in over-run factories which they used in comparision trials against the Black Prince and Centurion tank. The British 823rd Armoured Troops Workshop REME in Germany 1945 also "built" at least 2 late production Jagdpanthers for trials and evaluation purposes. Hope this might open up this interesting thread a bit more.
