Pedro Posted December 14, 2000 Posted December 14, 2000 I recently played a scenario TCP/IP as the US and decided to use a M3 1/2 track to scout down a road for me. I don't normally use 1/2 tracks to scout but I had to in this situation. The M3 was soon shocked and lost a crew member from a German HMG on level with the M3 and about 200 meters away. A few turns later after the M3 buttoned up it started back dowm the road only to be knocked out by the German HMG. Is this a common occurance? Isn't the MG42 a 7.62 mm.? Are US 1/2 tracks really this vulnerable to these rounds? As the US player I have killed a few Sdkfz 250/251's with .50 cal but that is not unusual. I would like to scout more with 1/2 tracks as low cost alternative but I will have to stand by for now. Vergeltungswaffe Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 There was a thread on this recently, with numerous contributions from BTS. The M3 series had absolutely pathetic armor. At reasonable ranges, an MG42 had no problem penetrating. So, while unfortunate, what happened to your scouts was totally realistic.
Forever Babra Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 300 yds is danger close. ------------------ Scarred on a hundred fields before Naked and starved and travel-sore Each man a tiger hunted; They stood at bay as brave as Huns The last of the Old South's splendid sons Flanked by ten thousand shotted guns And by ten thousand fronted
Flipper Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 hey pedro...I took out a hetzer last night night with a .50 cal point blank range side shot disabled it really but the same net result.
Randy Mauldin Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 When Gen. Omar Bradley asked a soldier if the bullets pierced the side of the armor of a HT he was in, he replied, "No sir; they just come in one side and rattle around a bit!" ------------------ Randy aka Prairiedog
Ben Galanti Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 Time to break this one out again Is there any chance that we're going to see the rest of these? I'd love to take a look at them...
Ted Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 Whoa, I don't remember seeing that graphic before. Where can I find that one and are there any others?
Subvet Posted December 15, 2000 Posted December 15, 2000 I read somewhere that BTS was going to put a bunch of these charts on the game CD originally. In the end the game took up too much space on the CD so that idea was scrapped. Now I'm not going to say I wish there was less game and more charts, heh heh. However it would be REALLY nice if BTS could post these somewhere or put them in a zip we could all download. I drool at the thought!
