Jeff Heidman
You know, I can see why the Europeans like soccer so much. It is socialism in action. A lot of people running around working very hard to accomplish very little. Jeff Heidman

patboivin
I can't resist: All the judges of the Florida Supreme Court were appointed by Democratic governors... and CNN was acting as if they didn't know which way the judges would rule. Can anyone tell me who appointed the Federal Supreme Court judges, so I can predict who won the U.S. election? In Canada Supreme Court Judges are appointed by the Prime Minister and they are there for quite a while. I wouldn't be able to tell you if they are all Liberals, or if some of them are Conservatives from the Mulroney days. : )

Vetch
The best article I saw was in a San Francisco paper last week. Apparently Wavy Gravy has been running a presidential campaign for several years now for the candidate "Nobody", saying that America doesn't really need a president. He said he was surprised but pleased that Nobody finally won the election this year after all of his tireless campaigning on his behalf. Nobody is clearly a candidate that the people can rally behind he said. And we can see why. Nobody delivers on his campaign promises, Nobody will lower your taxes, Nobody will put the issues ahead of politics. I was laughing my bleep off. ArmoredAmoeba
I frequently write to friends overseas. I have started using "The Peoples Banana Republic of America" on the return address portion of my letters. I am interested to see if they actually get there. The US Government funds huge beauocracies (bad spelling) just as much as any other government. Soccer teams achieve a lot in terms of international co-operation and funding facilities for young people in poor parts of the world, and I can only assume that much of the global population agrees, since it is the most popular spectator sport in the world, so there.
