DaMilli Posted September 22, 2000 Share Posted September 22, 2000 When purchasing german units for my PBEM I have so many choices concerning different service branches (Heer, Fallschirmjäger, SS, Gebirgsjäger, Volkssturm) and different formations (rifle squads, Sturmgruppen, SS-Rifle, Escort squads, VG squads, SMG squads, Füsilier squads, etc...). Looking at the allied possibilites, there are only rifle squads, parachute squads and glider squads IIRC. My question is: does this historically model the allied troops during WWII or was there simply more research put into german formations (I doubt this since I assume that BTS surely had some WWII buffs on this board to help them)? If such few specialized allied formations were normal, could someone explain this to me? Thank you, ------------------ "I am no fool!" Franko Posted September 22, 2000 Share Posted September 22, 2000 In my opinion, the Allied troops are accurate. The Allies, especially Americans, were much more standardized than the Germans. A possible exception is the lack of American armored infantry formations, which usually had more machine guns and bazookas. However, this can be easily remedied with the existing selection (simply add a few more .30s and bazookas). One formation glaringly absent is the Ranger Company. Ranger companies had about 70 men or so. Although scenario designers have used Airborne troops to simulate them (Ranger's did wear jump boots), the Rangers' had a lot more squad automatic weapons, organized more along the lines of a USMC squad.
