Probus
Is there any way to tell if a unit is a core unit when playing a campaign? I haven't noticed any.
CarlXII
That should be mentioned in the briefing/ campaign description...Otherwise it's a campaign design failure.

It would be useful, but I'm not aware of a way. Hopefully someone will enlighten us. Someone said in another thread that the core units have asterisks (*) in their names, but I believe that's usually the convention to indicate historical individuals/units? The campaign designer could add a C (or sumfink) after core unit names, but I think they already have enough to do. Perhaps in future 'the code' could do something like this?

You might be told at the start what your core units' are but within each mission likely not. This might be intentional on the part of the designer to prevent players from misusing the non-core unit.

Surely not George, who would do such a thing ?
