Hey Chuck, I found these fascinating - esp the 2nd about the MG34 (with all too brief mention of the MG42).  Finally found out what those "boxes" on the tripod actually were for... and all those brilliant adaptive innovations.  Never knew they used a battery powered optical sight.  One can understand why the MG42 is basically still in service as the M3.  Thank you!
