Hope you don't mind me using your diagram to illustrate the type of model we were taught some 35-40 years ago. Definitions are changing. Nobody announces these polar shifts, they just kind of show up and the masses run with it. Many Conservatives are confused they are considered right wing now. The opposite of Liberalism was Conservatism. Socialism was a response to capitalism. Heck I remember Liberal and Conservative Democrats 😉

Of course I don't mind 😉

One interesting part is that where the 'center' lies probably differs from country to country. For example our 'conservative' party / traditional right wing is probably more left than the 'democratic' party in USA. Being 'social-democratic' isn't thought of as 'far left' here.

Another interesting part is imo, political parties catering to 'what the people seem to want in their eyes' and implementing policies stuff from wherever on the spectrum.

But indeed over the last few decades there have been shifts in politics across the globe, probably to cater to the changes happening around the world.

What is an aberration in that model is how the far right, which is opposite the far left...actually BECOMES the far left.

There is no room on that model for anarchism, clanism, tribalism, etc.

Again, the term "right-wing fascist" came about SOLELY from the street fighting of the 1920s when the communists were trying to distance themselves from other collectivist philosophies...such as fascism.

The more I dug, the more I found that most people get confused when you ask them what defines left-wing vs. right-wing. The Control/Freedom measure is NOT mine...but it is the most useful I've found.

These are somewhat loaded terms though. Everybody wants to be free, even a communist. In his view, communism would represent freedom from the oppression of capitalism and the exploitation of the working class.
