tar
Here is a link to a short description of taking out a German bunker on Omaha beach: Taking out a bunker.
John Kettler
tar, That's a way, but certainly not the usual one. Never heard of a M16 GMC used for bunker busting before, but I certainly can't argue with the results! Wonder what the open fire range was. Michael Dorosh
I get the impression from that site that the narrator was firing a large calibre (3-inch?) gun, with the M16 firing seperately in support. Ie it wasn't an M16 that took the bunker out. Edit - not a 3 inch, then: From his bio in the other link "The first squad was a M15 Halftrack armed with a 37MM cannon and twin 50 caliber Machine Guns. All guns mounted so they would fire together at the same target."
tar
Hmmm. So it seems that using small caliber guns against pillboxes seemed to work in real life as well as CM. Although I suspect that either the pillbox in question didn't have AT guns or else they were engaged in shooting at something else. (Although the author does mention enemy shells flying past.)
