CanuckGamer
My friend and I are currently in the middle of a pbem game. If we purchase and install 4.0 will that screw up our game? Thanks.
c3k
First, copy (not move) your install to a "safe" location. Then, you can install the upgrade over the original and have two installs: the old (in whatever "safe" location you copied it to) and the new. You can play BOTH versions. As to your game, save a replay. You can use that to start a new turn under v4 to create a command turn. Any execution done under v4 will need to continue in v4. Best rule of thumb is to save a couple turns. That way if there is an issue, you can try the earlier save. (Again, it's a matter of replay vs. command saves.) Both of you need to be on the same version. Edited April 4, 2017 by c3k
A Canadian Cat
Ken has covered the how, excellent. I'll just add I've been playing PBEM since the beginning and there was one game after one patch that my opponent and I could not successfully update. Every other time things have gone smoothly (and other games that update worked too). With one patch an air plane sound played for the first turn and recently existing smoke textures were a little odd looking. Both issues cleared up after the next minute of play.
StieliAlpha
I have seen the odd smoke, too, but only in BN. In my case, smoke was replaced by explosion graphics. Looked odd, indeed, and fortunately went away after the first full turn under V4.0.
