Lan Game

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

My friend and I are trying to establish the connection for a LAN game and are having issue. Either of us can host, but the other computer can not connect to the IP address given.  We both have the same internet carrier, Comcast. Using Win 10. Norton is our firewall.

Thanks!

Any ideas?

Doesn't matter that you have the same internet carrier.  Only helps if you are both on the same router/cable modem.

You have two options.  First is to try hamachi - this sets up a VPN where you can just use the IP Hamachi gives you to connect.  It is easy but is another bit of software on your machine.  https://www.vpn.net/

The second option is to forward the port that CM uses on one of your computers - the other player will then be able to connect.  Port forwarding is somewhat complicated but instructions for it are located here.  https://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/port-forwarding-xfinity-wireless-gateway/

Another bit of software, but I use it and enjoy it. Its called Evolve, and it is essentially a lan emulator. It has features similar to Steam, in that you have a friends list and a log of games you've played.

To use it with CM, all you have to do is invite the person you want to do a lan battle with into a party. Then, once you are both connected, go to the battle screen, select a battle and choose one of the two lan internet play options. From there all you have to do is give your friend the IP address of the Evolve party and you should be good to go. You can find the Evolve party IP address in the party window. It will also be listed by CM, but will likely be accompanied by the hosts IP address as well. Evolve IPs tend to start with the number 10.

Hope this helps!
