StieliAlpha
Guys, want to see a T72 toppling over? Unfortunately only in Russian, with German subtitles, but I had to share this: http://www.spiegel.de/video/video-1671456.html
John Kettler
StieliAlpha, I thought that vid of Abrams and Leopards on ice skidding through turns was scary, but it never occurred to me a tank with so low a CG could flip like that on dry land while turning hard. Looks as if the crew got within an ace of landing right side up, but the tank ran out of momentum. Hope everyone was okay, since those things don't have set belts. The first part of this initial video reminds me (in the less scary parts) of how rough my early attempts were to operate a stick shift. All of it is the strongest possible argument for mere car drivers to maintain excellent SA at all times. Both have sequences at Nizhniy Tagil. http://www.spiegel.de/video/internetvideo-kreuzende-panzer-auf-russlands-strassen-video-1264267.html http://www.spiegel.de/video/panzer-kreuzen-in-russland-die-strasse-video-1250329.html Regards, John Kettler
StieliAlpha
Hi John I don't know, if it's true, but the German subtitles said, the crew was buckled up, if I recall right. yes, the question how to flip such a beast, with such low profile and centre of gravity occurred to me as an engineer, too. But then, it flipped, while travelling with high speed on a (more or less) circular path. Ideal for huge centrifugal forces. Or was is centripetal? Can't remember. Dynamics lesson are way to far away....

Centrifugal pulls away from the center of the arc; centripetal pulls towards the center of the arc. But you get full points for spelling them correctly. StieliAlpha
Well, I am project manager. It is good enough, if I can spell it and throw it into the discussion in appropriate situations. The rest is for the specialist. ?
Michael Emrys
"My job is to set policy. Applying it is somebody else's job." I don't know who first said that, but I have been tempted to use it many times. Michael
