Ivan Zaitzev
Does anyone know where can I find the 1:25.000 maps of France, specifically from the Normandy region, the military used in WWII? I'm trying to plot some coordinates found on a war diary and I need the maps. Thanks.

Main URL = http://digitalarchive.mcmaster.ca/islandora/object/macrepo:32223 France 1:100k Topographic Maps are at URL = http://digitalarchive.mcmaster.ca/islandora/object/macrepo:8286 The McMaster maps have downloads at higher resolutions and cover the campaign areas. At 1k grid squares you can zoom closer with a decent reference for estimate of distance with reasonable elevation lines. 1:250,000 - 1954http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/france/txu-oclc-6617501-nm30-12.jpg 5km per grid 1:100,000 - WWII Topographic Map Series McMaster Universityhttp://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww2/ww2_Fran_Belg_Holl_ndx100k.htm http://digitalarchive.mcmaster.ca/islandora/object/macrepo:8846 1 km per grid http://english.mapywig.org/news.php?rowstart=11 http://wwii-photos-maps.com/ consider looking into Geoportail Advanced. URL = http://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/accueil -> Click on "Version avancee" - -> On left, click on "Cartes IGN" view (although "Cartes de Cassini" is tres cool without being useful!) - - -> Enter "Arracourt, 54370" in search box. You should see a traditional topographical image result. You can center and zoom. Contour lines appear nicely. http://garmin.opentopomap.org/https://github.com/der-stefan/OpenTopoMap https://opentopomap.org Use the Magnifying Glass icon to search for a location. British Library has a bunch of contemporary 1/50.000 scale maps. They work perfectly well for referncing coordinates that you frequently find in war diaries. Link here: Example CAEN map Example how to use them you can find here: Ressources for Scenario Research #1 British Library Online Maps Good luck with hunting down the locations.
