UAV Spotting & Air Support

Hi,

I'm playing a mission, NATO side, and am given UAV's and Apache air support. At the moment one of my UAV's spotted two Russian IFV's, within 100 meters of each other. When calling in the air support, via the UAV operator (a Fire Control Team), does it matter if I use point targets on the IFV's (so two separate fire-missions, + 2 times waiting time) or an area target (including both IFV's in a single fire mission). My big question is; does one or the other way, makes a difference in spotting and/or engaging (air support wise) the IFV's. And does the area mission reduce the chances of engagement enough to justify the use of two separate point fire-missions, + 2 times waiting time?

Thanks in advance!

It does make a difference. The area target will have less chance than a point target. However in your case I would recommend using a small area target that covers those known enemies.

You will really notice the difference between a point target and a large 600m area target but not much of one with a smaller area target. In this case if you want those two targets taken care of I believe that the fastest way is a tight area target.

One disadvantage I've found with point target is if visuals on the target is broken the mission's probably kaput. With area target you can still get lucky, the pilot might reacquire and be able to launch even if the spotter doesn't see him. Usually for me, though, the darned target has already rolled outside of my target area circle anyway.  :( Which is one disadvantage of area target. A point target would have followed the vehicle around the map.
