Erwin
I recall a thread on this long ago... I had two 2" mortars a few meters apart, both with a nice red target line to a target. But, one fired just fine, the other never fired anything. Reasons?
A Canadian Cat
I think I have seen that too - but have no proof Check their LOS to the target location again. In my case it was like they setup to fire the mortar and realized - oops we cannot see that spot any more. The next turn the target line showed no visibility. I moved them a bit and tried again and it worked.
Erwin
I checked every turn and the one that wasn't firing maintained xnt LOS. I even moved it to what I thought was a better position with xnt LOS, but it still would not fire, while the one next to it was firing away happily.
womble
Was there any overhead?
Erwin
They were both in woods.
womble
That may be your problem: the shooting one could find a way up through the canopy, whereas neither of the spots for the other one allowed the high trajectory shots to be taken.
Erwin
That makes sense, but highlights another LOS irritation. Just like with MG's which can't see and shoot at the target even when the 3rd ammo bearer can, you'd think that it would be automatic to move the support weapon a few inches so it can fire. If you don't want the crew weapon to move, then don't order it to fire. But, if you do order it to fire, it should be able to move a few inches so it can fire. This is probably my last remaining major gripe with the "realistic game" part of the system. I put the need for selectable waypoints and lines so the gameplay is speeded up - really needed with larger scenarios - under "much needed UI improvements".
