James Crowley
A QB set in October '43; within a platoon of British Mechanised Rifle there is a FO team but they have a parachutist portrait and the branch of service shows a parachute.
akd
Was this with automatic purchase and force set to "mixed"? It is quite possible that the autopicker could attach an airborne FO team to an infantry platoon. If not, please be more specific. There is no unit in the game called "British Mechanized Rifle."
James Crowley
Sorry for the abbreviated and, as it happens, inaccurate description. Yes it is auto-pick 'mixed'. The only formation is a British Company, headed 'Motor' Aside from ACs, Carriers and a Tank, which all come under the leadership of the A Co. HQ, there are two infantry platoons. Both infantry platoons are headed 'Motor' and display the armoured infantry insignia. Platoon 3 has three sections of 'motorised rifle' Platoon 4 has three sections headed 'rifle' and has both a sharpshooter team and and FO team attached (sorry, I stated the FO was with the other platoon) Only the FO team has a parachute portrait and a parachute branch of service. This seems out of place.
akd
well, mixed autopick can lead to odd mixes.
James Crowley
I have always assumed that 'mixed', in the context of the menu option, related to simply a mixture of infantry and armour. Not an ahistorical ragbag jumble of units. If the latter is indeed possible then it pretty much renders that option redundant. Which would lead me to respectfully suggest that the autopick could do with an overhaul; assuming there is an intention to have fully functioning QB selection process not dependant on the player having to pick the forces for each side in order to get something sensible and historically correct.
Michael Emrys
I never, EVER, let the AI pick anything. It is just too weird at this stage of its evolution. It's okay if I pick the enemy's forces; my short term memory is so short term, by the time the QB has finished loading, I've already forgotten what I've pick for the opposing forces. TheVulture
Pretty sure that what has happened is this: aside from buying full formations in a QB, you can also buy individual vehicles and specialist teams. The autopicker has bought the infantry formation and had some points left over, so it has bought an FO and attached it to that formations (teams and single vehicles need to be attached to formations so they are in the C&C net for your force. You can do this across branches of service to be able to e.g. add a tank to an infantry platoon. It is pretty normal in QB's for humans or AI to use a few teams like this to use up the remaining points, although I doubt many humans would add an airborne FO to an infantry formation...
