Will95 Posted April 27, 2013 Author Share Posted April 27, 2013 Turn 40 The Summer battles continue to rage hard during 1917, let's get to it! On the Western Front it's a real bloodbath now, particularly in the French sector. Two advancing corps were struck down and the Germans appear to be gearing up for a full on frontal assualt on Verdun. Further up the British killed off yet another corps- at this rate the enemy won't be able to plug the gaps fast enough! The first British tank corps also arrived and will surely help spearhead things here. Coastal bombardments keep the reserves in check. In Italy we're quite spread out but stable, at least for now. Next month we have several reformed Italian corps forming, so all is not yet lost! As long as the French, and what's left of the Italian force, can persevere, the land war here is not yet over. We have also transported a small Portuguese detachment across the Med to assist in the holding of key cities. On the Eastern Front we are now pressured on both sides of this pocket, but we should have enough troops to resist them, and even more are still due to arrive in the coming weeks and months. The Germans fell back last turn, so we took the initiative and pressed forward in the North. It appears to be only a single line of infantry here, so matters are quite delicate for the German. In the Russian hinterlands there are some more unusual battles going on. We have sent a detachment to cut off supply to this relatively exposed German army- if they don't have a rearguard, this could potentially be a major win for us. I believe the Hun underestimates the ability of Russia to keep reforming fresh corps to operate to the front! Norway slid a little more to the Entente way of things this turn, a good sign! Will95 Posted April 28, 2013 Author Share Posted April 28, 2013 Turn 41 The British charged out of their trenches, supported by their brand spanking new tanks, decimating 1 enemy corps on the coast and heavily weakening another. It won't be possible for him to move up to the line anymore- he won't be able to entrench fast enough to prevent further losses. We sent a corps through the lines where we calculate they should be relatively safe from damage. Further down the line the French took a hammering, and now we've really just got to try and last out until reinforcements arrive in the next few weeks- 3 fresh corps in June + July. The enemy is now pressing on our fortresses at Verdun, but the overall picture is fairly neutral- now the front lines simply rest on their geographical divisions. On the Eastern Front we destroyed 2 German Corps on the main line with devastating artillery attacks, and proceeded to upgrade our Russian tanks for even more pushing in the coming turns. The enemy charged recklessly into our rear and we punished them by destroying an Austrian corps to the south. The only potential issue is the (presumably detachment or cavalry) which now flanks us in the far north and could cut us off from the rest of the country. Norway slipped further into the Entente this turn, and an American infantry unit continues its sail over the channel. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Strategiclayabout Posted April 28, 2013 Share Posted April 28, 2013 - Seems austro-german right flank will crumble soon in France (is it an amphibious unit I see in the Channel near the picture's border ?). The thing is Russians will too and soon enough, so it's a race to death now ! You said US unit sailing in the Channel ? But they arn't at war yet ^^ ! - Maybe you shouldn't have let all those troops be encircled in Poland... The gap between your southern and northern wings looks very wide adn you havn't that much supply sources left. Where is the relief army (are screaming trapped russian generals ) ? I don't think the Russians are that weak...? I mean they're not in a great spot but once we've reconnected the encircled territory just above them (I assume it's just a weak unit) then we'll be back in play again. The amphibious landing group is preparing to hit from the rear next turn. Further down there's not much movement, just consolidation of the line and a bit of digging in. When the Germans move up their line, we'll have the guns ready for a counter-attack. On the Eastern Front we dug in on our new front line, while sending the tank corps and an infantry corps to the north and south respectively to prevent us from being outflanked while also attempting to trap the enemy. The German NM is suffering due to Norway pulling their income and they edge every closer to that 50% line. Will95 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Share Posted April 29, 2013 Welp, missed a few turns. Well, here's the condensed version of everything that's happened July-September 1917... On the Western Front the British punch holes through the flimsy German line, stealing Lille, while the French take a pummeling. We are quite up against it in the south now and have been forced to send the cavalry in to hold the line- not quite yet obsolete! On the Eastern Front, cue the Benny Hill theme- although this Russian pocket is now entirely surrounded and almost certainly destined to go down fighting by the end of the year, a single detachment broke ranks in an all-or-nothing gamble: stealing the fortress at Lemberg! Another corps further in the north scurried out of their trenches, dropping their entrenching tools and rations for what can only be seen as a suicide mission, with the goal to relieve the strain on the main front by flanking the German forces and cutting off the northern army. The USA inches ever closer to joining this damned war but isn't quite there yet. Never mind, we've got a full strength Corps and Tank battalion just a few miles off the French coast waiting to disembark the moment that blessed pacifist Wilson blows the whistle. Italy is now entirely out of the war and the remenants of their army disintegrated. The French forces blocking the southern sector are now feeling decidedly lonely without the Italian HQ or artillery- things are certainly looking bleak for the French. Otherwise we are nearing the decisive point in France, who will break first ? - Taking back all northern France will help sustain NM and add some needed MPPs while taking them away from Prussia and Lille will soon be a great supply base ! But yeah it's really just about trying to grab as much NM from him as possible now, because I believe that now the army is isolated from the capital, they will bleed NM for every lost unit now...? France is pretty delicate right now. I'm hoping that this British push will force some of the pressure off Verdun and Belfort but it looks like he's just screwing Belgium and pushing anyway. Fortunately, all Entente nations are recieving a massive amount of reserves in September/October, so we should be in a good position to close off the year. Strategiclayabout Posted April 29, 2013 Share Posted April 29, 2013 - Thanks for the new pic, looks like Austrians' rear is pretty empty in Poland, well they can't be everywhere (France, Italy...) ! - Central Powers will get NM bonus for all units destroyed at supply 4 or below. HQs provide their own supply so they'll have to isolate/reduce them first (to put them in low supply) to get NM bonus . - About supply in the pocket, you have one main source with Brest-Litovsk at 8. When isolated from capital/primary supply source, it falls to 5 meaning your HQs can only have max supply of 8 (if they are in supply range of Brest = 5 tiles for 5 supply). - The trick is that 8 supply only works for the tile HQs are in, adjacent tiles will only have 7 and two tiles away it will only be 6. Meaning once your HQs lose more than two steps, supply collapses very quickly and your ability to reinforce units go down (vicious circle).
