Steven482
Fate has left me with a destroyed light mortar section, but the weapon is still around. I asked my Ammo Bearer Team to provide medical assistance. After saving theirs buddies lifes, I expected them to recover the mortar and use it (even if they are not really qualified). So far this has not happened. How can I motivate them to do so? I can see the weapon clearly standing right next to them. They did recover some of their buddies small arms ammo. YankeeDog
As far as I know, only small arms, small arms ammunition and AT specials like Panzerfausts can be recovered from WIA or KIA. Once the crew of a heavy weapon like a mortar or gun is wiped out or has abandoned the weapon I don't think there is any way of "re-crewing" it with another team. Not sure an ammo bearer team would even have the training needed to operate a mortar very effectively anyway.
John Kettler
YankeeDog, There does seem to be an exception for things like halftracks. People describe filling out cut up crews with HQ teams and such after first dismounting, then remounting with the new men included. This seems to restore weapon functionality where it has been lost from crew casualties. I've never done it, but YMMV. Michael Emrys
Somewhat on the same note, yesterday I was transporting two MG teams and an HQ Support team in a halftrack when the organic MG gunner got popped. I then watched as the leader of the HQ Support team took over as vehicle MG gunner. Inasmuch as the vehicle has not reached its destination, I haven't tried to debark it passengers, so I don't know if the team leader will stay with the vehicle as gunner or debark with the rest of the team, but I suspect the latter. c3k
The team leader should dismount. Passengers will man transport vehicle weapons, then disembark normally.
