I agree just give a firm yank - The imac's memory is notoriously stiff

"The white plastic side clips are stiff, as described, but snapped as they were supposed to.)"

I've just opened my iMac's ram slot and can't for the life of me get the memory out. I've tried pulling the tab but nothing happens...

To remove iMac memory you have to tug pretty hard on the plastic tab and it will pop the memory out. Don't be afraid to give it a good tug - it can be quite stiff.

iMac, RAM Upgrade! (see 4.59 – 5.04)

Or take it to a computer shop for them to do it (1/4 hour max labour)

Honest, I did. I don't give up easy.

Interesting vid. Has almost convinced me to give it another try.

I've toyed with that idea. I can afford the job, but the logistics are daunting.

Or search for a mac chap that you could call out to install it at home - Here where I live in UK a friend has set himself up as 'Apple Allen' www.appleallen.net offering mobile local Apple support. Might be something similar to you locally.
