Sabot6
I've noticed several times that when one of my 2" mortar teams is right next to another unit, the mortar team invariably can see farther than the unit next to it (by "farther" I mean it can see over small crests in the terrain that seem to block the other unit's LOS). I just had a situation when my mortar team was next to a HQ unit, both equipped with binoculars, and the mortar could see over the crest of the hill that both units were behind (reverse slope position), while the HQ's LOS was blocked. Any thoughts on why this might be, or am I imagining it (via selective memory when the mortar team actually does have a better LOS than the adjacent unit)? Thanks!
akd
Mortars are allowed to target into defilade positions marginally out of LOS (e.g. just over the crest of a hill or just beyond a tall wall). This does not mean they have LOS to the location.
Fizou
It is the same in CMSF for the brits who also deploy the 2" mortar.
Erwin
It's also the same for FO's (and IIRC MG's and Snipers). The system allows certain units to TARGET or see further than anyone else can see.
Vanir Ausf B
FOs can target indirect fire into areas slightly out of LOS, but I don't believe they can directly fire their personal weapons into those areas. MGs and snipers are the same as regular infantry.
