Can Squads Call for Fire??

Recommended Posts

I have read and re-read this thread concerning C2 and ability to call for fire.

http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=97507

I am able to understand 95% of it and have no trouble calling for fire using my Company Commander or any Platoon Leaders.

However, from the thread, it is my understanding that SQUAD leaders (without radios) should be able to call for fire if they meet the parameters under ADDITIONAL TEST RESULTS.

Scenario: I have a Company commander, platoon leader, and a platoon organic squad in a wedge formation with 20m distance between each. A Platoon organic mortar team is in the center of the 20 meter wedge. CO and PLT leaders can call for fire, the squad cannot. All the units are in C2 with higher.

From the linked thread, I would assume that the Squad should be able to call for fire because they are a) within 50m of the mortar section and B) are in C2 to the PLT Leader and/or the CO leader which meet the outlined requirements from the linked thread.

However, the Squad cannot call for fire. Is there a difference between a Squad and a Squad HQ?????

Could somebody please explain my misinterpretation.

Mortar section HQ is a totally different animal than a rifle squad.

This is my understanding:

Only HQ units and FO's may place calls for support. While each squad has a leader, as does each team, these leaders are not headquarters and cannot call for artillery. Additionally, there are some assets that lower level HQ's may not be able to call.

An unauthorized team attempting to call for support will be shown as "Denied" in the artillery listing.
