CM and MS Plus!

Arrow

Recommended Posts

I've read a lot of stuff here about how MS Plus! likes to screw up CM (and games in general). Yesterday I noticed I had a directory called "Plus!" So I figured I'd look for two components of Plus! that I know about-Themes and Custom Cursers. I found, and removed them. Now, since there isn't an option in Add/Remove programs for Plus!, what are the other components of Plus! that I need to remove?

Also, just what exactly is Active Desktop? Does suck up RAM and/or screw up CM? How do I remove it?

Thanks

Microsoft will install a PLUS folder in the Program Files directory by default with a standard installation of Windows 95B or newer (I believe). The System Agent is the program that gets intalled there (it orginally came with Plus). If you didn't install the separate program "MS Plus", then there won't be an uninstall for it. Therefore you shouldn't need to uninstall anything.

"(None)" or "Windows Standard" cursors work best with CM. Custom cursors may be animated, which is probably the biggest problem, or using a chunk of video memory that may cause CM problems. You shouldn't have to uninstall these either, but you have to make sure that you're not using them when you launch CM.

Schrullenhaft is right about the Plus. The Plus pack you're referring to is a seperate program you had to purchase.

Active Desktop is "bad". Quite simple if you want to do gaming, don't use it! It is sort of a live 'web' page/inferface to the internet or local files to have cutesy stuff auto display and update on your desktop and most definately sucks up your resources!

Here's a technet article on how to enable/disable it.
