I hope you give it a shot, because despite the high price relative to other video games, this is the real deal!

Just as you wrote a CM-game is quite expensive. But all scenarios that come with the game, scenarios that can be downloaded from TheFewGoodMen website and scenarios that can be home made in the editor and also the quick battles we get with a game make sure we will have fun for a long time. And when we start playing against people with the pbem-system we will have even more fun.

  2. Gun crew can't abandon a gun and start using it again and also if the team which is carrying ammo for one gun [gun 1] die and the gun crew for another gun [gun 2] die, both guns of the same kind, it seems the ammo carrying team from the gun 2 aren't able to help the gun crew for the gun 1.

So in the end there is a gun with crew without ammo and a gun with ammo carriers with ammo which can't work together.

Did they all target the painted area ? How big was that area ? Did they start to fire at the same time ? Were the off-map assets also mortars or other assets ?

The painted area was actually different smaller ones and if I remember correctly the fire from the heavier artillery, heavy mortars or medium howitzers, came a bit later than the on-map mortars. But it didn't stay for long.

But maybe one of the FOs had requested heavier artillery to shoot on that area which made me believe that the ctrl +c area order caused this.

Maybe needs more testing with the area fire feature.

but on the dense urban map I'm working on for CMRT, I've found the AI using arty much less frequently than expected, despite having huge assets. Sometimes, it doesn't use any the whole battle

On one of my scenarios where I had given the AI both on-map and off-map artillery it seems that when giving the AI the self control it's officers prefer to call for on-map mortars to shoot. When using the Ctrl + C-key command and paint an area, the AI use both the on-map and off-map artillery for support.

  5. It seems to me that when playing quick battles in Final Blitzkrieg, which is about the timespan October 1944 to January 1945, the German paratroopers are treated as if having been parachute dropped and it's not possible to use them and also pick armoured vehicles for support.

According to what I know there were only two parachute drops during 1944, operation Rösselsprung in Jugoslavia with the objective to capture or kill Tito and operation Stösser in Belgium with the objective to seize certain positions ahead of the advancing panzers in the Ardennes, and no drops in 1945.

During 1944 and 1945 the German paratroopers fought very much as regular infantry on all the fronts which they also did during 1943.

So it would be great if the German paratroopers could be given some love by BF in engine 5 so it is possible to pick at least one or two different Stugs and maybe even PAK-guns when playing as them in quick battles during the years 1944 and 1945.

Nothing to add about Engine 5 at this time.  We've not formally started in on it yet and probably won't for several months.

That must mean BF is open for suggestions on what we'd like to see in engine 5. Spill it out, boys and girls, and let them suggestions come freely.

I'd just like to think that there's a decent size player base to justify me putting in the hours needed to design content.

There are those people here who convert maps from one CM-game to be used in the other CM-games. So if you make a scenario with an intetesting map for Final Blitzkrieg it's possible someone will convert your map so it can be opened in for example Red Thunder. And then they maybe use that map as a quick battle map or copy your AI-movements a bit to make a scenario for Red Thunder.

The only part where I get anxious is how lacking Red Thunder personally feels to me. I just can't get into it as much as the other titles.

You could always use the editor to change existing maps to look the way you want by adding houses, elevation and other things. And if you change a quick battle map, or a few of them, you could change the AI-movements and actions a bit to be more to your liking. You will then have a quick battle map to which you can add the units you want for each side and have fun with that edited quick battle (those edited quick battles).

  9. This film was downloaded and watched yesterday. And just as I expected it was just like all the other boring Russian films about the war. The only difference is that they have tried to make it more updated and "krutoj" by adding a whole lot of slow motion. It's just that the slow motion is completely unnecessary and several years late.

how to do the briefings properly...the maps and mission designs i could do, just the briefings

You don't need to do the briefings like they're done in scenarios you get with the game. Use your fantasy a bit and make a briefing the way you'd like it to be done.

As long as the player understands what you want him to know about the scenario and mission of the troops involved that is good enough and you can add pictures which help the player to get the purpose of the battle.

I have some content but it's for my first campaign compilation, Rollbahn D.

So far in the "can" I have

    • Murky Merlscheid (Fallschirmjäger)
    • Leaving Lanzerath (Fallshirmjager)
    • Minen The Gap (Losheim/Scheid, Spitze)
    • Breakthrough (Bucholz/Honsfeld)
    • Bull-in-gen China Shop
    • Butchers Of Baugnez (thanks for the Cafe/Hotel/Signpost mods Kohlenklau!)
    • Storming Stavelot
    • Trois Is A Crowd
    • Jabos! (Cheneux)
    • Probe At Stavelot
    • Neufmoulin Rouge
    • Duel In The Mist (Stoumont)
    • Too Tight At Targnon
    • Ster Way To Heaven (Parfondry/Stavelot)

For the remaining 15x scenarios I will be using mostly maps already created

That's a huge campaign. You mention 14 scenarios (battles) and then mention that there will be 15 more to add.

Those who wait for added content, like a dlc, for Final Blitz won't feel like there's nothing to do in this game while they're waiting.

  12. Out of curiosity, are there going to be another couple of updates to the other games when this Fire and Rubble is released? I know there were a few updates a couple of months ago and Red Thunder would get those with Fire and Rubble. But that was quite a while ago and maybe Battlefront decided to do some more changes/updates which the other games will get when Fire and Rubble is released.

And while some of that work comes from testing and balancing, a lot of the workload is also due the editor not being very user-friendly.

It would have been so much easier and quicker if one didn't have to jump between the 2D map and the 3D map to do some changes.

But there is hopefully going to come a new game engine which will make doing scenarios and maps a lot easier.

If Battlefront is planning to make a new engine and in that wants to keep a 2D map separate from the 3D map, it could still be easier if it was possible to have them in different tabs with real time changes in the 3D map of what is being done in the 2D map. One could in that case go into the 3D map tab and check the changes made in the 2D map tab without having to load the 3D map.

  14. Hi friend,

I would think that bunkers burning is the name of the scenario as bunkers don't burn in the game. I have never played the scenario but would think that using your tanks to shoot at the bunkers  to destroy them would help. And then you maybe could try smoke again to get closer to some of them while the other ones are being shot at by tanks so you can use panzerschreck, panzerfaust, bazookas, satchel charges or whatever you have to destroy a few more.

I'm sure someone who has Red Thunder will be able to advice you more.

What the book explains is that there was so much cruelty and mass death of maybe 10 million in the 20's and 30's that people had become hardened and callous

I read a book in Spring about how the Special Branch were using microphones to listen in on German PoWs. And in the beginning of that book is mentioned how the Germans saw themselves and also the mindset when it comes to violence towards other people which apparently should explain why Germans treated their PoWs and the conquered people ths way they did.

I think many people today tend to forget or not be aware of how afraid people were of Bolshevism back then.

Fear of "the red mass assault" and of being occupied by the Soviet Union was a great factor to why some unemployed young men and others who wanted a change and some adventures in their life, and weren't nazis, joined up for a couple of years in the Waffen-SS together with those young men who were nazis. Just like some young men who want a bit of adventure and change in their life are signing up for the French Foreign Legion today.

A good documentary on the similarities between Nazi Germany and Soviet Union is the one called The Soviet story which can be found on Youtube.
