RDM - GL - In for a Pound scenario for CMFI (requires Gustav Line add-on)

This original scenario has been randomized and expanded so that no two games will play alike, and so you and the AI opponent have more forces at your disposal making for a more intense experience. There are 5 different AI plans and all reinforcements have been set for random deployment times.

As this is an alteration of an existing scenario you can expect to play the same objectives and general flow of the battle but with more opposition and some surprises. The reinforcements have been designed to keep you on your toes and to counter those of your AI opponent. However don't get complacent or throw away your forces - you will need them.

Feedback welcome and appreciated. you can email me at xxnightopsxx@gmail.com

Thanks to the scenario author for the original scenario and Battlefront for one of the best and most unique war game simulations around. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I played the original as the British and really enjoyed it. First time I ever set up AT guns on field.

What worked for me at last was to only use the "Activate New Products" and use license no. for 3.0 upgrade, not 4.0 or anything else not even start the game after 4.0 upgrade only use 3.0 upgrade license.

I have base game + GL module and did a new full install of the game.

This worked for me as well. Full install, using the key from Upgrade 4 Big Bundle from the activation screen using the game icon did not work.

This is the process I followed:

    1. Full install

    2. Then use the "Activate New Products" from the installation directory and use license no. for 3.0 upgrade

    3. Then a window appeared showing "Unlock Success!" Base Game 3.0, Base Game 2.0 and Game Engine 4 unlocked.

    4. Then I ran the game to make sure it was operating and fired up a battle. At the splash screen bottom right  it says V2.0, Game Engine 4.

    5. Then use the "Activate New Products" and use license no. for "CMFI + Gustav Line BUNDLE".

    6. Then a window appeared showing "Unlock Success!" Base Game 3.0, Base Game 2.0, Game Engine 4 and Gustav Line unlocked.

    7. Then I ran the game to make sure it was operating. At the splash screen bottom right  it says V2.0, Game Engine 4. Also the Gustav Line symbol appears at the bottom, second icon from the left.

Aaargh....  B4 one brags plz let us know whether it was played WEGO or RT and what level??   ^_^

If you were meaning me, I played my first twenty or so games on WEGO and Warrior, then went to Elite/WEGO. I also try to play "Ironman", no reloads or restarts.

If I played RT I would get slaughtered. The time limits in a lot Paper Tiger campaign battles are a lot tougher than the other designers (except for the 3 hours given in Nijmegen) when things start to unravel.

Even though I play WEGO. I often step away from the PC exhausted after hours and hours of intense concentration.  I would not eat without the wife serving me.

The classic Battlefront approach; thoughtful and deliberate with a clear focus on quality, which is why these games excel!  Kudos to the team.  Please serve no wine before it's time but know that it will be truly relished when ready.  I expect to pair this vintage with Mamertino, the wine of Julius Caesar B).  Truly looking forward to it.  Good luck and Godspeed!

Yes, quality first please. A somewhat rare commodity these days.

Mamertino for Caeser, not sure I have heard that before, will have to look into it. :)

So in summary there is no singular bridge bug there are many bridge bugs. When the get found and reported fully they get fixed.

At this point there is no way to fix "bridges are broken" reports. If people want bugs fixed they need to provide saves.

Ok. I submitted my save from the Heuman Lockbridge battle with bug in v4.0.

My one criticism of the new system is that sometimes when the units displace, they choose poor routes that take them through enemy fire, or across dangerously exposed ground. In urban settings, sometimes they flee towards the enemy, or flee to buildings that are occupied by the enemy, or are worse off than the building they left. Also, units in buildings under artillery fire tend to flee more often than I think they should. After all it is generally safer to be inside than out in the open while under bombardment, but currently pixeltruppen seem to disregard this and break for it once the shells start landing.

I don't have the experience of some of the players here but I too have noticed this. There have been some cringe worthy moments as my soldiers route to "safer" ground in v4.0.

    Hi folks,

I mentioned in another thread (http://community.battlefront.com/topic/121877-best-way-to-play-operational-level/?page=1) awhile back that I was working on a Combat Mission operational/larger battle type of game system using the VASSAL program (which is a boardgame program). After a big move to another part of the state, and taking care of just life stuff in general, I finally got a chance to finish my test bed game covering the Counterattack at Gela called CMOPS (Combat Mission Operations). VASSAL engine is a program that is used to play a lot of popular printed wargames. I was able to use the program to create my own type of wargame that can be tied in with Combat Mission. This concept is similar to using John Tiller's Panzer Campaigns (which is already a great system) with Combat Mission, however VASSAL is free to download and use, which is used to play the module I created.

I made this primarily for myself and a friend to play a larger battle that is resolved in Combat Mission FI/GL, but I'd like to share it with anyone who is interested in alternative ways to play with Combat Mission.

You can download the zip file here, which contains the Gela battle file module for VASSAL and a PDF rulebook on how to setup and play the game with Combat Mission.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/linrd7g3dttmg3y/CMOPSGela.zip?dl=0

Time permitting, I'll create more battles and battlepacks to play other forces/nations with the other Combat Mission games. For starters, this is what I've created.

    Stele,

This looks great. Where do we sign up, fresh faced, unblooded captain/major/colonel sign up :D

  8. Its the first scenario of the Road to Nijmegen Campaign (BNMG), I think it is called Nicoline. It was Elite difficulty level.

That's 2nd squad of 1st Platoon moving ahead in the buildings in the image (split into three teams), from memory I would have used Quick move order to get them there. Its E Company HQ and MMG Team having the difficulty moving using a Quick move order on the right. The rest of 1st Platoon is strung out and advancing along a broad front to the left, some in cover some not.

It could be related to the problem I replicated with that tournament scenario @Hardradi. I would suggest you to open up a ticket in the helpdesk following more or less the style and content of my report: most important is to determine if you can replicate that behaviour regularly with the files provided, or there is some "hidden" factor in play that is affected by saving and reloading, or the WEGO turn-based gameplay.

This was 7 minutes into the battle so I would have to go back and attempt to try and replicate the move down the wheat field on the right flank to see if it happens again. I image that this would be difficult.

I suspect it happened because these guys were fired upon by the Germans in the buildings, a couple of the guys freaked out (rightly so) and froze while some of them went on or were perhaps they were far enough ahead to be not affected by the fire. The troops are Airborne, regular morale and Tiring. Perhaps the teams consist of Green and Veteran and average out to regular. If this was the case the outcome would make sense.

The only problem is the guys who advanced further couldn't do much (from memory).

  10. This thread is quite confusing but I think i had a similar issue 4.0 with a HQ Team and MG Team moving through (Quick) a wheat field both at the same time. The two groups in the rear, "dragging A$$" appear to be crawling. The MG Team were split over about 180 meters. Full squads got through fine.

I have a save game from which I extracted the screenshot below. Is this what you guys are talking about? I only had this happen at the start of my first battle in 4.0 and have since played three more battles without noticing anything similar.

If someone wants the save game let me know how/where to upload it. Happy to help.

  11. Game play wise I recently finished the Foiling Fustian campaign in CMFI(GL) where at least two of the battles were in misty woody terrain. I think the mist really assisted with close quarter assaults by infantry on Sherman's. Also, the advancing British infantry were cut down. I don't think the results would have been as successful without the mist/fog.

Game play wise I am still coming to grip with night battles, a bit of a different beast. If you fire your a target. Enemy armour can blunder right past your forces and both sides will struggle to see each other.

In the rain, I think your infantry may fatigue quicker but I am not sure yet.
