  1. Armour nerd posts. First Ukrainian Pion loss - captured by Russians. My metaphorical hat off to whoever builds the 1/35 Trumpeter kit with the Ukrainian digital camo: T-64s of the 30th Independent Mechanized Brigade in winter camo:
  2. The Face of War: Russian POWs in Kharkiv: Dead civilians in Mariupol: https://twitter.com/antiputler_news/status/1507416262661521418?cxt=HHwWlICyidbGtespAAAA
  3. Intel leak: Ukraine will not run out of TB2s. Is it a system? Is it a munition? It's both.
  4. I posted about the Ukrainian TB2s earlier in the thread: They are controlled from mobile command centers with a range up to 300 km. The drones fly autonomously to their mission area and back, meaning the centers need to transmit only during the mission. Thus, assuming you could locate the center via transmissions, you would need to hit it with a loitering air strike or a ballistic missile. The former is not feasible for Russians because they haven't done DEAD; the latter would need to happen in a short OODA loop, and then Ukrainian air defenses have been adept at shooting down ballistic missiles as well.
  5. Would you care to elaborate? I am asking because there was a 'very active' member of the forum several years ago who was a former Russian VDV NCO, and his political views aside, he seemed to know his stuff.
  6. Steve just leaked an aspect of the next modern CM title!!!
  7. More American volunteers fighting in Ukraine - judging by the voice, this is a different guy than the one Haiduk posted:
  8. Good catch! I'm curious about this too. (Assuming your post was in reply to silverstars) The soldiers in the BBC video are not militiamen; they belong to Ukraine's regular army, said to be the 22nd Motorized Infantry Battalion in the article I linked to earlier. (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60860548 )
  9. Sorry to remind you of this, but the DAR where the Forward Observer bested you was epic. And, as relevant to the ongoing discussion, he beat your Russians without a single Abrams.
  10. FWIW Ukrainian Navy TB2s have cool paintjobs:
  11. Soldiers have warmed themselves around bonfires since the dawn of organized conflict in the Neolithic age. Unless there is British thermal footage of Argentinian troops warming themselves in the Falklands, this may be the first such footage showing an enemy army. Here's hoping we won't get to see 'historic first' footage with mushroom clouds.
  12. Good article to put faces on your Ukrainian pixeltruppen: "Defiant Ukrainian troops tell Russians: 'Go home while you're still alive'" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60860548 From the article: Ukrainian troops' daily ration: "There were 17 different things inside: wheat porridge with beef; rice and meat soup; beef stew; chicken with vegetables; pork and vegetables; crackers; biscuits; tea bags; coffee; blackcurrant drink; honey; sugar; black pepper; chewing gum; bar of dark chocolate; plastic spoons; moist wipes." And a look into a captured Russian field kitchen:
  13. You know, at this rate, a supermarket in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) will have more foreign products than any in Russia.
  14. Nah; unless there's regime change in Russia, he'll always be loaded and drooling away on TV even if the entire Russian army is wiped out. (Hint: You cannot open a vodka factory in Russia without paying him and his party their share.)
  15. I believe Haiduk missed this: I am seeing Ukrainians very aggressively confronting Russian soldiers; singing the Ukrainian national anthem at their face; and eventually someone sprays one of the Russian soldiers in the face with something corrosive.
  16. The great irony is that Russia's greatest warmonger, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, has been missing all this as he has been on a ventilator for Covid.
  17. Thank you. I thought the voices were Ukrainians calling Russians profanities for destroying the tanks, but upon listening to them again, I now realize they're Russian soldiers calling the Ukrainian tank crews profanities. With that misunderstanding cleared out, I now understand the part I wasn't getting: 'BK' must refer to 'boevoi komplekt'. This is now yet another example we have of a tank completely destroyed by artillery.
  18. And this is faithfully reflected in CMBS, if you check out the (last) names of Ukrainian soldiers. Another accurate portrayal is Russian soldiers having names of ethnic minorities. The only point where this aspect of the game departs realism is there are many Russians with the names of Russian literary icons, which are quite rare names irl. Though, this is only extra amusement for me: Nothing like a Tolstoy taking out an Abrams or Bradley.
  19. Makhno would be proud. And the guy sitting on it is apparently armed with a Mosin, so full-on time travel.
  20. My first sighting of T-72AMT (Ukrainian) in this war. I would appreciate help with understanding what destroyed the second tank - I believe the Ukrainians are using military jargon that I'm unfamiliar with:
  21. The Russians have brought out the Tachanka: Maxim mounted on tuk-tuk:
  22. 'The Ukraine' was simply in line with the colonial tradition of referring to territories, e.g. 'the Caucasus,' 'the Congo,' 'the Sudan.' This continues to this day with a linguistic conflict in Russian, where your choice of preposition for 'in Ukraine' reflects whether you consider it a territory or a nation.
  23. I was able to find this: http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-96K6-Pantsir-2K22-Tunguska.html "Early variants of the Tunguska series introduced an electroptical tracker to provide silent angle tracking in jamming environments. The electro-optical tracking system includes a longwave (8 - 14 μm band) thermal imager for target acquisition and tracking, and a dual band short (3 - 5 μm) / midwave (0.6 -1.1. μm) IR tracker for angular measurement of the missile beacon." Then, there is this video: What is your take on the screen at 2:45-48? (Out of 'likes' today; will give one tomorrow to your Su-35 vs. TB2 commentary.)
