  1. Thanks for the tip. But I tried bump texture one way and then tried inverting it, but it still doesn't seem to work; I think it has to do with the mdr model that the helmet is based on. In the end, I just photoshopped shadowing effect into the netting layer, which seems to work pretty well.
  2. Each time I updated the files, I just copied over the old files in the same Dropbox folder. The link in my very first post takes you directly to the newest version.
  3. Here comes version 1.2: I modded the Syrian fighters so that they wear at least some camouflage. The mod folder linked below also contains my previous work on the Syrian regular forces. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bwgu0k7bdjpblkr/AADo5tmmL0RTWPz8omGaS6twa?dl=0
  4. Version 1.1 just uploaded. Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bwgu0k7bdjpblkr/AADo5tmmL0RTWPz8omGaS6twa?dl=0 Version 1.1 change log: Edited Syrian Ssh-68 helmets. Now Syrian soldiers wear a mixture of camouflage-covered, netted, or bare Ssh-68 helmets.
  5. So, I took your advice and remade the netting, and it does look a lot better! One problem is that I can't get the normal map to work. Does mdr create a conflict with the normal map file?
  6. Thanks, Steppenwulf! Those are some very helpful advice!
  7. I see what what you mean. You're right, the special forces are separate from RG. I should explain that picture a little better. Those are just RG soldiers, the idea there is to show what modernized equipment in the Syrian army looks like. By my research, the spec ops don't dress any differently from the regulars, except that they are better equipped. The modernized equipment used by the RG at the beginning of the civil war is likely what the special forces already had a few years earlier, which is around the timeframe of this game.
  8. Nice pic of the netting, I've tried to replicate that netting for this mod, but I'm just not that skilled. Maybe one of the better modders can teach me a few things? Also, notice how this helmet is more dark green compared to the 2005 picture of the troops in a truck. I'm not sure whether that's due to lighting or a different colour paint. If anyone has info on what the right colour should be, I'll change it in the mod.
  9. Red bar on the epaulette signifies Republican Guard, the same as a red beret or red triangle on the centre of the helmet (like the guy in the truck). As for that big circle, I haven't seen any close-ups of it, but my guess is a paratrooper badge of some sort.
  10. BTW guys, I'm very much a newbie modder, so please feel free to critique the mod. For example, I know that the Syrians don't use the Soviet-style armor vest, let me know where I can find some modding tutorials or the right resources. Thanks a lot!
  11. Thanks for trying it out! Eventually, I'll get around to modding those uncons as well. BTW, I messed around with the download files yesterday, and you may have downloaded a version that IMO gives the Syrian helmets too much of a bluish tint. I switched it back to the old ones you see above, you can download it again and see for yourself which is better. Also, in the mod folder are some camouflaged and netted variants of the Syrian steel helmets. By default, the Syrian airbornes have helmets with camo cover, the regulars and RGs have netted ones, and the reserves have bare helmets. Too bad the game file doesn't let you mix and match steel helmets like some other items. Feel free to switch out anything that's just too ugly Here's a shot of all three helmets side-by-side.
  12. You might be thinking of the uncons with the green headband. In the Syrian roster, if you look under infantry - special forces company, you'll find the all-black special forces I'm talking about.
  13. Content: This mod is intended to create an accurate representation of the Syrian Arab Army around the timeframe of this game. Download link below: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bwgu0k7bdjpblkr/AADo5tmmL0RTWPz8omGaS6twa?dl=0 v. 1.0 List of changes: 1. Replaced the fictional Syrian flag with the real flag of the Syrian Arab Republic 2. Replaced the Ssh-40 steel helmet with the Ssh-68. 3. Replaced the fictional all-black outfit of the Syrian special forces with the standard Syrian woodland camouflage (w/ late Soviet-style armor vest) and the black helmets with olive or camouflage-covered Kevlar helmets (to represent the Chinese QGF-02). Acknowledgments: A big thanks to @||CptMiller|| and @SaintFuller for making their armor vest and Ssh-68 helmet mods available for our community! Not long ago, @||CptMiller|| released a mod for the fictional Sahrani Liberation Army, which made the Syrians into a generic Soviet-style OPFOR with armor vests and Ssh-68 helmets (helmets made by @SaintFuller). This ingenious mod is what gave me the tools to make this realism mod for the Syrian Arab Army. Research notes: (1) The stock Syrian helmet in the game is the Ssh-40, which is a WW2-era Soviet helmet. The Syrians began equipping their troops with the Ssh-68 by 1982 and were still widely using it in 2005 when Syria pulled out of Lebanon. Based on my research, the Syrian army would not begin widespread equipment of Kevlar helmets until shortly before the Arab Spring. (2) The stock all-black outfit worn by the Syrian special forces is in fact worn by the Iraqi special forces, but I haven’t seen any reference pointing to its use by the Syrians. Based on news photos from when the Arab Spring protests began, we know that the SAA had body armor and Kevlar helmets by Spring 2011. I think it’s reasonable to assume that the Syrian special forces had this type of modernized equipment a few years earlier. The photos below are comparisons of the modded SAA soldiers with photos of the real SAA.
  14. Hi IICapMillerII, thank you for making your beautiful mod available for all of us to use! I took the liberty of borrowing the vest you made and SaintFuller's Ssh-68 helmet to remake a mod that IMHO more accurately depicts what the Syrian army from circa 2008 would have looked like. Since you're the inspiration of this mod, it's only right that I should share my screenshots with you before I put it out there for the rest of the community. It goes without saying, credit will go to you and SaintFuller for the vest and the Ssh-68 helmet. Cheers!
  15. This looks terrific! I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but this helmet (Ssh-68) is the correct helmet that the Syrians should be using. The stock helmet that came with the game is actually the Ssh-40, which has a much rounder front.
  16. After the last 2.01 update, the Syrian mechanized airborne and bmp-3s are nowhere to be found in TOE. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  17. The LAW launchers are extended even when shouldered. I noticed this with the UK troops in Breaking the Bank, but I haven't checked other factions for this problem.
  18. I don't mind the wait. It's Battlefront's repeated unkept promises that I find quite irritating. If you run into unexpected issues that slow down progress, let us know you can't make the target date, we would surely understand. But to disappear for over a month and not give any status update is unprofessional by my book.
  19. Command was fine. In fact, I've noticed this problem for quite a while now. It seems like an easy fix, the problem is how do we get Battlefront to act on it?
  20. The Ukrainian Artillery Observation Vehicles (MT-LBU 1V14) in Mortar Batteries can't call artillery, it doesn't have laser designator either. The same is true if you pick this vehicle from "single vehicles" list. But the same vehicle at the battalion level seems to work just fine (call strikes, has laser designator). As far as cost goes, the battalion MT-LBU costs 120/360, the mortar battery MT-LBU costs 100/300. Is this intentional or a bug?
  21. Here's an updated dropbox link to the download: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2jyd2bbf7fzvdet/AADlhLjFrhSgVWdYKGrfNtPra?dl=0
  22. They don't let me out much, my company. lol... I've been a pretty infrequent visitor until very recently. Sorry for keeping this under the wraps for so long
  23. All, A link for my Ukrainian/Pro-Russia Separatist skin is included below. Back in early 2016, I did hours of research and created a set of skins for the Ukrainian government and separatist forces based on several preexisting mods (Veins' Russian and Ukrainian Infantry skins, Stagler's Russian skins with gorka and flora camo, Blimey's "Separatist - UKR Digital Slot"). The resulting product is a line-up of government and separatist forces wearing a motley of different camo clothing. I would like to thank Stagler, Veins, and Blimey for your wonderful contribution to our community! But if any of the original content creators object to my usage of their mods, pls message me, I will make revisions accordingly. This is my first post, do let me know if you encounter any problem with the download or the mod itself, I will fix it. Also please share your thoughts on how we can improve this mod together, I want this project to belong to our whole community. Hope you guys enjoy! Description of the mod: 1. Ukrainian government forces: The government soldiers wear mostly the new digital camo pattern, mixed in with some uncovered green/gray helmets and the old bytan-pattern camouflaged helmets and ballistic vests. 2. Pro-Russia separatist forces: I chose the digital slot for the separatists because I feel that, notwithstanding reports of Russian arms surfacing in Donbass, the separatists' equipment is still predominantly the same equipment used by the Ukrainian government forces. What differentiates this mod from Blimey's version is the inclusion of a different mixture of motley camouflage and helmets, rebalanced to reflect (in my opinion) a more authentic look for the government forces and the separatists. Based on my research, olive gorka suits and Russian flora patterns are fairly common among separatist ranks. Occasionally, you will also see some separatists wearing equipment in the new Russian digital pattern. For identification purpose, separatists tie white bands on their arms and legs (Government forces sometimes use yellow tape for identification, but I left this feature out b/c this practice appears to have become less common since the adoption of the new digital pattern). This mod reflects these observations accordingly. Furthermore, I reintroduced helmets for the separatists for several reasons. (1) I can't add bare-headed separatists without also having to remove helmet chain-strap from all Ukrainian models. (2) In intense battles (e.g., Second Battle for Donetsk Airport), video footage showed many frontline separatists wearing helmets. (3) This game reflects the conflict in 2017, it's likely that the separatists have become better equipped.
