I'm only doing 40 m and 150 m at the moment but already at 150 m the Bren fires single shots. It is about as effective as an MP40 or Sten at that distance (which is not bad actually) but far behind German LMGs. I haven't processed all results but British rifle section (1 Sten, 8 Lee-Enfield, 1 Bren) stands at 0.89 bodies per minute at 150 meters. It would take two sections to match the firepower of a Panzergrenadier squad...

Curious thing: I'm testing the Bren with a gunner and an assistant leader. In one of my initial setups the assistant leader decided to fire short bursts at that distance. He consumed about three times more ammo than the gunner but also had by about 50% better results. I wasn't able to make him or the gunner fire bursts in the final setup, so the results above are for single shots.
By the way, would anyone be willing to help me out with the tests? Do not volunteer too fast, it's tedious and time-consuming, you really need to have some spare time for this. It's okay if nobody does. The results are interesting though.

That's the plan - prepare to be ready in some four years...   Vgauntlet? Never heared of that.
Basically, I would like to see if there is sufficient interest to attend a CM wargaming weekend with playing a common and guided scenario. There were big events like that at Rhendahlen barracks in the eightees and ninetees. Always a lot of fun, nice people and much beer. Some even burned their dice after a lost battle.

By the way, a little off topic, but as others have started to discuss this...
Since some time I am dreaming of CM usage in some Computer Aided Exercise weekend like they were conducted at the good old times of paper wargaming by the British Army of the Rhine here in Germany. Hopefully, Battlefront is still going strong in four years when I will retire and can afford to spend the time to organise something big like that. Preparing and conducting such CAX was part of my business here at the industry during the last two years.
A cheap hotel, big ballroom, hired computers for those not bringing their own, a nerd connecting these and preparing material for After-Action-Review and the forum, temporary licenses from Battlefront (?), a fitting scenario, a blue and red leader and some 10 to 20 players resolving any clash that shows up on the common situation map of the Excon (Exercise Conductor) which is kept secret to red and blue.
    Good idea?

Since some time I am reading this forum with much interest and play CM since the CMBO days. This is the most informative thread so far and I have deep respect for the knowledge displayed here. Thank you all.

Concerning terrain VL I think, that a scenario can be set up and played like a chess game (CMFI has some), but for me, there is much more fun, when a good briefing gives it an operational context and a PURPOSE and that perfectly fits to a terrain objective.

Imagine, your battalion has the order to block a road to close a huge pocket filled with enemy forces. The objective is not to neutralize the last enemy formation between you and the road, rather to find a bypass or an efficient way through this formation.

The objective is the road in operational context. I enjoy objectives with purpose.
