Assault in the AI orders mean the units move forward separately in bounds. One tank moves forward then another. Assault doesn't mean the old CMx1 'human wave' command where everyone jumps up , yells and charges. 'Max assault' is probably even more different than you imagine. It means when they meet the enemy they stop and slug it out, making it to the destination is less of a concern.
Yes I understand what the assault order is. But I'm curious if the AI is programmed to actually use this command. They only seem to run forward as a whole group. I also can't remember if I've ever seen the AI use the "hunt" command.

I don't even know if this is possible, but it would be great to see some sort of upgrade to the attacking AI in update 5. Does the AI even use the "assault" command?

Ah, lots of debate about this. We've been reluctant to do this because, with certain exceptions, it seems that German soldiers engaged in combat followed the rules and wore their helmets. The common exceptions being mountain troops and leadership elements. Oh, and a particular character, who definitely was not an officer, wearing a well beaten M-43 in a particular movie is yet another exception
Steve
Thanks! I respect whichever decision you guys make, but it would be nice to be able to mod them in somehow!

Even more beautiful pretty soon. I'm going to tweak a few things so the headgear is varied between soft hats and helmets, as a mix seems to have been fairly common. And the scenario designer will get to choose between two piece padded, greatcoat, or a mix of the two.
We'll post some more screenshots of uniforms, including Volkssturm, very soon.
Steve
Is it possible to get a variation in the headgear of the wehrmacht/ss as well? Or perhaps modded? You often see fieldcaps sprinkled in with the stahlhelms. Especially in this timeframe.

Liking that snow camo on the SU!

Maybe the development time has been longer because they wanted to add more campaigns/battles? From what they've described were getting a plethora of missions. Can't complain about that. As long as there is some sort of communication/screenshots every now and then I'm fine. The only part where I get anxious is how lacking Red Thunder personally feels to me. I just can't get into it as much as the other titles. I'm very excited for the heavy urban battles in the module. Fire and Rubble could very well be the linchpin that makes Red Thunder my favorite of the series. It'll be worth the wait.

The MG42 is not all that good.
Are we playing the same game? The mg42 absolutely shreds in CM. Even far away it puts enough bullets downrange to suppress a whole platoon.

Happy New Year 2021 everybody!
The Missus and I played a game of scrabble as part of our celebratory evening for two. The deal was the winner would get the opponent to perform 1 request. I won! But instead of asking her for some intense, amorous type of action <<wink, wink>>...I said I wanted her to watch me play a short, small scenario in the CMRT Winter Mod and see some of the stuff that was done over 5 years ago! This morning over coffee, she sat next to me and it was fun to explain it all to her. She even made a few tactical recommendations.
I am still looking forward to the real deal from the BFC folks.
Best wishes to all.
Haha my girlfriend only describes Combat Mission as the "loud game."

Lol, I also made this mod, or at least a very similar mod, a month or two ago, in preparation for Fire and Rubble's arrival. It's all ready to go for CMFB and RT-F&R when the module arrives, just need the fieldcap model and a texture as a guide. Adapted some of EZ's uniforms too, but need to work in some of those warm jackets, what's great is that the gebirgs tag works with models too. You obviously know that though as you mix helmets in your screen shot.
Triple post... sigh

These look great man! I didn't know gebirgsjaeger could wear specific head gear. I thought they alwasy shared helmets with the regular infantry.

I didn't mix. These one with caps are gebirgsjäger, these one with helmets are regular wehrmacht.
Gotcha. That would be awesome if we could though. I want some berets for my paratroopers!

You liked the previous incarnation of Battlefront's Normandy game, so I'd get Battle For Normandy. Most amount of content especially with the modules. You get a diverse nation selection, battlefield and weapon systems. There's also an extensive amount of mods and scenarios for it.

A while back I booted up a quick battle in Fortress Italy. I was the Americans defending a ridge from a battalion of light Italian tanks. That's like over 100 of these little guys. I only had one concrete bunker with one 57mm at gun in it and the rest were various infantry platoons. That bunker took punishment all day until the tanks got within 150 meters and finally finished off the crew. The gun managed to take out half the battalion by itself.
I've also seen bunkers set up in a beautiful position not kill anyone. Many times their occupants just become panicked/suppressed and become sitting ducks. Seems to be a toss up but bunkers don't faze me as a much as other defenses.

I definitely have an interest in making some scenarios for the community. I really enjoy creating the map but I find creating AI orders daunting. I suppose I just haven't found the time to read up on how to create an interesting scenario. Especially when I have so many campaigns and scenarios to play!

I hope not. I would rather see the CW 44/45 Expansion of Final Blitzkrieg after Fire+Rubble. However we might learn in the next 2 months what the plan will be.
Agreed. Final Blitzkrieg could add some more spice. Black Sea isn't really my cup of tea. I'd prefer if they just added Russians in desert camo to Shock Force 2.

This doesn't look that bad! The point of view of an anti tank gunner looks pretty unique.

Yep, coming from that region, I would love to see a TF Welborn scenario. As I recall, this was the last larger tank engagement of the war and therefore certainly is some sort of „milestone“. There were one or two scenario attempts for CMx1, but they were not very convincing.
Otherwise, I remember a pretty good Northeim campaign for CMx1, which I would love to play with CMFB.
And the Harz should offer room for small scale actions in extremely difficult terrain.
I hiked the Harz a couple of years back and was surprised how rugged they were! Especially in the Northern German plain.

Echoing what Aragorn has said; There's zero hype for this module because they haven't released anything in the last 6 months to keep us interested. I don't see how that's a good marketing strategy. I might forget to buy it because I simply wasn't reminded that it's on its way. Give us a real bone already or tell us what's up with the development.

No news?
Some sort of weekly/monthly dev blog at least would be nice.

I second this. I find the enemy is fairly competent at artillery managment BESIDES the pre bombardment. That usually always lands in front of my troops. But I suppose this is just to deter my advance? I play the ww2 titles more than the modern ones, so I can't really comment on those.
