  1. speaking about morocco soldiers in italy, i'd add some flair to that.

first troops that liberated Bologna in central italy were Pollocks who were fighting alongside Indian Sikh formation under British command, of course. Now, if i want to see something in next CM set in Italy are these Sikh units with their amazing turbans.

As all this wasn't enough, guess who fought hard in mountains near Modena. Yep, you're right, your favourite Brazilian expeditionary forces. I want them as well in CM, naturally.

  2. there is no defence of LOS in this game. recently i watched a video on yt of kiwi battle in FI.

The german two men team were inside the buiding taking fire from kiwi base line of fire from behind the wall outside.

in meanwhile player sends his troops to a bilding adjected to one where are germans and in next step he makes them enter the building with germans (who are crawling down pinned).

kiwi troops enter the door and right infront, two meters away, is the window their mates are shooting at and below are two nazis pinned down. what did the kiwis do you wonder?

Three (i think) went by as there was nothing to see and headed to the bottom of the room. One of the nazis gets up and slashes them down and it is only in that moment that rest of kiwi squad (that was at the door to the room) sees them and starts shooting killing both of pinned nazis.

    plain wrong

Suvorov is either an idiot or a liar of the worst kind.

This "thesis" is so blatantly stupid and so ignoring facts, that it's unbelievable.

First off, the number of T-34s and KV-1s was less than 500 of each dring Barbarossa. The vast majority of Soviet tanks in -41 was utterly obsolete T-26s. There was also a large number of BT-series tanks and to a lesser extent, T-28s.

Second, if the RKKA, (it was not yet called the Red Army) was poised to attack Germany, why were they spread out all along the border? The Soviet tactical doctrine of the time was Deep Battle, that called for concentration of troops.

Third, if USSR was poised to attack Germany, how come the whole army and air force was is such a bloody shambles that they could hardly carry out defensive operations?

Four, if Stalin was ready for war, how come he went out of his way not to provoke Germany, to the extent that he forbade the Soviet air force to engage German reconnaissance planes?

This whole idea has been so effectively debunked an refuted by all serious historians, that the only ones believing in it, is the crackpots and those seeking to defend fascism.

I recommend you read the following works if you are interested:

David Glantz: "Stumbling Colossus" and "When Titans Clashed".

    Anthony Beevor: "Stalingrad" and "Berlin".

    Cornelius Ryan: "The Last Battle".

Especially David Glantz is unparalleled in his knowledge about Soviet military and tactical doctrines. He was for many years Pentagon's leading expert in Soviet military matters. Suvorov, on the other hand, is a disgruntled defector, unhappy that he never received the limelight he thinks he deserves.

  4. Light/Harrass Maximum missions, with reduced numbers of tubes firing, perhaps, depending on the asset involved, are excellent for improving the response time of your heavy support. Especially when you combine a preplanned mission with TRPs. For example, you can have the arty start pounding the front edge of a town at 10 minutes, even if no FO would have gotten into sight of the town, then lift the barrage to further back in the town where you have a TRP for another 10 minutes, and once you've taken the high ground, and the FO can see the enemy rear areas (round the dreadful pall of smoke and dust hanging over the town), shift the remainder of the mission to interdict any arriving reinforcements. If any hard, stationary targets need attention and the FO can get eyes-on, that's a bonus. A full 4-gun 150mm module can give you up to about 50mins of heavy stuff only 8 minutes or less away, if you set it to Light, and only fire half the tubes.

    awesome mate, great info!

  5. i guess i have to describe better what happened there...

when i was assessing the map i noted that patch of wood on the flank of my main objective (which is the hill above it) and i was pretty sure it is going to be populated with nazis so i set up trp there instead of putting it on the main obj itself.

once the game started andi approached with my scouts suddenly the gun started shooting from the woods. i was so delighted i judged well the nazis i set up the barrage on whole wood as i was sure there were some troops as well.

my mistake was that once i have realised where nazis will set up the defense i didn't examine closely the woods as i would see the perfect position on the ridge overlooking what my opponent would presume it would be my main approach. i guess that is first lesson i have learned in my first h2h game.

anyway, as i approached the woods (gun shooting at my troops in the rear) i came upon two squads/teams that ran away as soon as my scout team started shooting so they had to be in bad shape. i only hope the gun crew isn't any better and few shots will make them run.

the problem is i still need to reach it and i can't go directly the shortest rute as it would kill anyone approaching. i'll have to go around it but to do that i have to clear the hill above it and before that happens, he can sniper down the valley.

i guess i am just frustrated i did relatively good observation in the start and ****ed it up with poor troop manouver.

i have little experience setting up mortar missions, so how do you actually set up an effective harass mission?

  6. Well, depends on a lot of things. What was the terrain like? Flat or hilly? Where was the TRP? What was the fire pattern? Where were your squads? Running or

    hiding? Etcppblabla...

I have seen useless strikes of a battery of 81's and devastating hits of single 45's.

    So, yes, probably bad luck....

the terrain was gentle slope facing my mortars, the trp was exactley on the woods it was bombarded and i chose area of around 5ox50m. i don't really care about the infantry but that gun is harrasing me and i thought it was knocked out. to think that the barrage was so thorough and dense that i had stopped it a minute before it was due to end... i thought nothing could survive that. silly me.

  7. thanks for all the answers, it sure is challenging game. another problem i find is that after i play for more than an hour (and i'm only 20 mins into the battle) i start to get sloppy and rush things. need to know when to quit i guess.

    @SteveP

idea of attacking the smaller hill before going for borgo was that i will be able to support the main attack and shelling the hill was just to keep the nazis' heads down before i position my troops on the walls surrounding the compound. however, despite my ingenious plan, i didn't count on shells falling ON the stone wall completely destroying it so once my pTruppen got there some of them had no cover and got hit badly by nazis. :D

the real mess came when attacking the borgo hill itself. again, my ingenious plan was to keep zee germanz heads down by shelling the first row of houses. however, while my pTruppen were approaching the place from where they were able to shoot, the bombardment suddenly stopped due to lack of shells. needless to say, two platoons turned back and ran for their lives after zee germanz took a look from the windows and started spraying those HMG's...

  8. i only have FI: GL, but that part of forum seems lonely and dump place for a while so i will just post here as it is about all CM games anyway.

what i wanted to ask is this: how do you coordinate your attacks?

well coordinated attack is much more effective than a bunch of troops going on their own, especially against well organized defense.

I was recently playing Borgo Cascino in FI and the map consists of two tits like hills in the middle while the rest is fairly plain ground. the bigger hill is the main objective. small valley separates it from the smaller hill to the east which isn't an objective but seems good overwatch position for the attack on the main objective.

of course, the nazis know it as well so they probably occupied few hoses on top of it.

now, i am attacking with an understrength company and am sending two platoons on the smaller hill while one is positioning itself against the main objective waiting for rest of company to do their part and join.

i have huge difficulty to coordinate my mortar fire (specially as i do not have TRP on smaller hill) as i have no eyes on top of the hill (besides, shouldn't my FO be able to direct mortar fire even if he doesn't see the top of the hill? i mean he sees the bloody hill in front of him and can see if the shells are falling on top of it or on my troops hiding in vineyard)

i have already made it longer than needed, so, is there any easy way to make your troops come together (apart the scouting team and it's platoon which go ahead looking for threats to main force) on top of the hill 10 seconds after the mortars have done their work?

at the moment i am calculating time taking two platoons to move, mortar fire to end, scouts to move... i was thinking maybe i am just new to the game and have no clue about an easy solution.

  9. found about cm series recently myself and after some trials i went for FI:GL. Indeed immens game. too bad you cant rewind the whole battle with all units after the battle is gone. only thing i really miss atm.

on the side note, OP mentions mods, i did download some sound mods but thats about it. i know where to find them, but trying all is too much. any suggestions on mods or thread that sums the best ones?

  10. thanks mate, i really appreciate the small sudios and the fanbase that is around such games. it is a unique place in the world of mega studios, mega sales, mega profits, that do mega ****ty things to people.

haven't felt this good about giving my money to someone for very looong time.

  11. In order to have infantry attack bunkers you just need to get them to within grenade range and leave them sitting there without any commands. They will throw grenades at the bunker on their own and take care of it.

hm, how would i know when am i at the granade range?

  12. He could be looking at the demo for CMBN and I'm not sure that has been upgraded from the original.

    indeed, it is the demo.

regarding not spotting the bunker, my squad was behind medium size bocage for about 10 minutes while the position (marked with a question mark) on next bocage was surpressed with light targeting by a sherman.

after i didn't see it returning fire anymore i have ordered my squad to assault that position when the guy inside suddenly woke up and started spraying mg fire on them. :D should have approached with smoke i guess.
