I highly appreciate a new streams feature added in CMFB.
Can you tell yet if this is just a simple texture overlay without yielding further effects, or does it also have terrain mesh sculpting capabilities (negative ditch locking), as well as movement or cover effects for any CMX2 units moving into or through that new terrain? (my preliminary guess would be no for the latter, for beeing too small a terrain feature)i'd prefere BF sorted out already present ditches (in normandy for example) which troops don't recognize and climb onto them instead standing beneath in cover. completely ruins the immersion and renders this terrain feature utterly useless even if it should be important part of planning for defense as well as offensive factions.
however, it is good thez introduce new types, just i'd like them being usable if they are already there.

i think they should just get stuck into some carefully picked historical battle.
also, is there anyone lurking in this thread really (or semi good for that matter) with photoshop? it would be interesting to see combined screenshots from both sides, sort of overlay of both forces on same map.
more on topic... i don't remember anymore the composition of bills forces on his right flank (i can see germantruppen being completelz molested on their right flank by bill. before banham pts that big tank in more advanced position he will have nothing to support but himself i'm afraid). but the real battle might develop in the town on bills right side. if all the infantry barricades there it will be difficult for bill to dislodge them without infantry.

apart covering arcs taht you have explained (thanks heinrich) i have another question bill.
what is your usuall procedure in kill zones you have setup? do you let your troops shoot on first unit you see or do you let them pass and wait for bulk of forces hoping the first unit is just scouts?
hmmmmm now that i have asked i believe the answer is obvious: it depends on what you know about enemy. however if you have no further knowledge apart three guys running into the kill zone. do you still let them past hoping for bigger fish to get into the net or you shoot... ahh, it is obviously "it depeneds again, right?

.in fact, that iis how they should have done it. let someone chose the troops for both sides and clash with selection of weapons and forces. too bad that during battle of nulge there was never 3 to 5 kilometers in depth LOS

The installer is currently being tested, and because this is the first time something quite like this has been developed there have predictably been a few snags. Nothing ground shaking, but it is holding up the release.it sounds as close as it gets. i bet on 16th together with "FB" to mark the anniversary ;D

as i said, i knew i was doing somethign wrong! never hovered over that black dot neither clicked on it. however, thanks mate, saved a ton of my nerves and quite a few pixweltruppen (it is common knowledge that nervous commanders make dubious decisions).

i wonder how do you follow this forum. it is complete nightmare for me to find where i left reading some thread and there is never "go to first unread post" or similar tab to continue reading where you left. this includes the threads i am subscribed to so i am wondering what am i doing wrong. i mean, it can't be like that by default and there's surely something i am not doing right.
usually i like to keep the main subforum open (i.e. cm:bn) and then i right click on thread i am interested but i never find anything to get me to last post i've read. it is just making me nuts. and yes, i am logged in.
any ideas?

i find this one interesting.

Any idea what they ment by "the spoils of victory"?

uf, posted this on bil's thread but i think it might be a bit over the top. luckily we have this thread.
so,if this was real life, would the allied side look to cease the engagement and withdraw from battle at this point?

it might work with a lucky shot as some vital part might be knocked out or granade entering the open hatch. however mortar team should have the tank in sight to minimize leading rounds as the tank would sail away as soon as it would notice that is being a target if targeted by indirect fire.

id say as well that doug is too long in same position with his tank(s) and might pay for it. seems confident of the placing and lines of sight that proved so usefull in the opening neglecting that time has passed and bill moved his forces since.

please keep them coming. i think Holien is just in awe of your ability so he assumes you have superhuman powers when it comes to tank movement. his logic was so blinded as it seemed more likely than you just posting a long exposition photo of battlefield development
i don't know if i missed it somewhere, but if i didn't, would you care to shed light on your left flank with more detail on ATG positions? how much did the situation change since doug didn't move both tanks as one would expect? i'd say he is unsure what is around the woods so he neglected common sense in pure fear thinking the second tank will be better off in safety of his proven position

it is amusing to watch this from the side. if i'd take a guess i'd say the battle has ended as soon as bill got tanks down. with a bit of luck and ATG in position Doug is done and doesn't even know about it.

indeed, i can hardly imagine any country (west or east, peace or wartime) would willingly share the info of their dead soldiers let alone special forces. seems a bit unfair to pick out russia for something everyone does.

i wonder how special forces deaths weren't the top secret in first place? i mean, if i was head of any state i wouldn't think the death reports on my spops should be available to all the states in the world. this info being available to the local public would be only secondary concern. how do hte other big countries approach this information? Does the UK; USA, hand it out ?

orwell is of course right in his observation but what he fails to address in that passage is "progress for who" and "reaction to what".
if we accept USA (or USSR) stand for progress in general, someone has to pay the price for that progress. from one point, it is even worst when progress of superpowers is paid by people of countries far far far away. would be much more fair that USA (or USSR/Russia) pays for its progress by themselves. but they can't because what progress represents is actually expanding (or mantaining already achieved) boundaries of influence which by definition includes other nations. spreading democracy by bombs is by no means different from spreading communism with equal means.

it is really amusing to read this discussion. west vs east accusing for wrongdoings... all it really shows is how we are influenced by propaganda.
no way of denying russia, or USSR for that matter, is an imperialistic power wanting to force its interests as soon as it was able to. the track record is just too long to be a coincidence. czechoslovakia, hungary, poland, afghanistan, cuba, korea... the list goes on... funny enough, the only guy who was able to push off the superpower (at least that i can recall atm) was Tito and Yugoslavia that refused to bend to Stalin's USSR and went on to develop it's own way of socialism. Sadly we know how that went in the end, or do we?
the same goes for USA. Whole latin america, middle east, asia... there really is no difference between the two. and if you go and zoom in into the regions and regional powers you will see the same pattern of behaviour wherever you go. everyone trying to push their interests. usually just by diplomatic or economic pressure and ultimately force. only difference is that as you go to bigger scale reaching the global superpowers you will see the trail of armed conflicts longer and blodier simply because superpowers are able to do it more often without being held accounted. but make no mistake just any country would do it if given opportunity.
that is just the nature of politics and power struggle from the dawn of men. what is perhaps worst is how we stick behind our countries and rally at the flag for "our cause" whole time being perfectly aware what it means but still finding excuses.
