so i bought and have been enjoying Final blitzkrieg for a while now, and having played through a bunch of scenarios I've been sinking my teeth back into the large armored quick battles that i have always enjoyed playing in CM. now normally i'd take a platoon of halftracked panzergrenadiers to hold "objectives" and such. but a while back i thought, hey, halftrack mortars now work (a feature i hope will make it back to Normandy) why not try out the weapons platoon? and for how I've been using my mounted pixel truppen this was actually a good idea, i just can't get my head around the 251/9. why would you need a stubby 75 when you should in theory have tanks around? on top of that its made of paper so what use is it against infantry? and its a stubby 75 so its not so great against tanks, i'd rather have a marder IIIm

hate to add one more thing, but i noticed a small TOE error. the panzergrenadier battalion (panzer brigade)'s mortar crews don't seem to have the ability to take half tracks. don't know is this was reported outside of this post

good news. good news

i was going to work on tube girl during the stream but oh well.

man, terror from the deep was tough.

a dynamic numbering decal system for vehicles would make my day.

I've been working on something incredible stupid that involves tanks, and I've decided on using an M48 tank. thing is i can't seem to find any real decent resources about it other than some superficial stuff. any body here have any leads or book suggestions?

wouldn't i make more sense for the "Maus" to show up in a Russian module? its not at the kubinka tank museum for no reason.

well at least i'll be able to get some more work done before I cease to exist for a week.

summery: gebergjagers have alot of automatic firepower, long 75mm will only tickle a jumbo, flame hetzers are mean in the city, and the KT commander is getting alot of medals. and something in chat about moon nazis. then a mortar half track duel that ends poorly for the americans
-
sadly the big suprise announcement in the chat that was Combat Misson: Mechsuits and Moon Nazis is lost forever

use imgur. its whats been hosting the larger images ive posted

i duno, i dont think counterbattery fire has any real place in combat mission, in the same way that advanced supply stuff doesn't really fit in (imagine the flow charts of rations you'd have to manage)
HOWEVER! i do think the greater idea of artillery duels and operation of a artillery battery would make a great dungeonkeeper-esque game. maybe you would have Fire missions that would reward you with resources at the cost of being detected. imagine setting up Counter battery Radar in a remote spots, and the decision of breaking up your guns into sections to mitigate counter fire, or grouping them together to have protection from enemy scouting and special forces elements.

New toys for commonwealth? Probably the Sherman Hybrids? or maybe they'll be around for the fortress Italy Gothic Line stuff. according to Wikipedia some Skink prototypes apparently made their way to Europe, but i couldn't find anything substantial to back that up.

As CM has it roots in table wargaming, map abyss problem can simply be solved by putting it on nice 3D table inside a room with wals full of war memoirs .
This can be added as a option for players.
i was thinking this as i was catching up on forum posts. other games have done something similar to that too (the first supreme commander, and i think Eugen's Wargame series) not that that's a good reason to do it.

That helmet doesn't look right to me. In all the pictures of Gurkhas from the WW II period I've seen they are wearing either a slouch (the most common) or the standard British helmet. May I ask, where did you find this image?
Michael
when i do get around to painting stuff in it the reason for the smile will be clear. helmet is defiantly wrong and was more or less a placeholder. i'm just getting over that fever and for some reason i forgot to redraw it to fit the profile of a netted tommy pot. (which is why its a placeholder, that netting would need to be painted on, not drawn on) i could not find any photos of Gurkhas wearing the slouch in an enviroment that looked to be continental Europe the slouch only appeared in photos with the khaki Shorts Uniform. but if you can give me a good piece of evidence i would prefer a slouch, and i have to redraw it anyways.

Gurkha drawing incoming tomorrow, too sneezy and wheezy to finish it. (first version was finished but was DERP quality)

WHAT! why would that be hidden like that. wow that's a really nice option. Its not quite like the Sturmgrenadiers in Market Garden, its all mp40s. but they do have a MG and its more than 9 guys. thats really neat.
-
SVT-40 was from its inception meant to be the main rifle of the red army, but at the start of the war things were not quite ready for full scale production, that changed around 43 when factories really started to churned them out. so i don't think its over represented at all. but if you would like less of them i THINK if you set the equipment option in QB or the Editor to Poor you'll get mostly Mosin-Nagants. and the as far as the STG 44, its always sprinkled about in German units, and if you want more, once again the QB's or the editor set the equipment option to Excellent. no Sturmgrenadiers in Red Thunder yet.
(edit) looked it up, factory output of the SVT actually diminished after 42 so i was wrong, but output of the various Submachineguns was increased and bacame more important than rifles so the SVT availability is still probably correct given that most Nagants were probably issued to Staff and logistical types not front line soldiers.)

heh, i said they didn't have a whole picture, and i understand everything you said (heck i do it on smaller scale, as outlet for when things hit a brick wall.) but i seemed to get the impression it wasn't like two to three projects, but like 12. but that might just be that they were overstaffed and had to find things to do, and its been a while since I've spoken to either of them. You seem to have a much better perspective than mine. and alot of mine also probably comes from my distaste for doing concept art (its horrible, emotionless work)

Several of my teachers actually worked on that game, and became teachers because of it. their general impression was that the art department was being run by idiots and most of their time was spent on "future projects" that ate up funds, their assessment (note they were junior artists not accountants, so take this with a grain of salt) was that the budget was so big because these "future projects" were taking up too much money. (also note this was the BIG HUGE end of the deal, not the 38 studios end)

hmmmmm ok, well i'll mess around with targeted building destruction later. also in my adventures i found a tiny bug(??) mortar halftracks won't fire if they have their HQ team inside, which isn't too much of a pain but if it isn't a bug, i kinda feel defeats the purpose, I've just been putting them in kubelwagens or 250/1s for mobility.
