  1. I'm guestimating that 100 to 200 extra rounds per mule is ok. 300 to 400 rounds per mule and no running. 500 per mule and you're walking. Until it gets tested won't know for sure.

Also would depend on the caliber. 100 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of 30-06 are 2 different stories.

Does CM take into account different bullet weights?

Wonder too if AT mules will be impacted.

  2. Does this latest patch allow you to continue h2h games and install the vehicle pack, I've not purchased yet?

I am a little leeary as the RT update has caused a few issues with existing RT h2h games. Some work, while others get to 26% loaded then F+RT stops working. It could be a number of things-mods ect, but until I have more time I won't be able to see what the issues is.

  3. These guys not only have manuals, they'll even let you play with all the cool new real stuff.

    :D

Not so fast there. You know how hard it is to get into the military these days? IIRC over 50% of those who would be eligible are not acceptable due to obesity, tatoos, past records or other disqualifying reasons.

Recruiters are turning away perfectly good candidates because they have so many to choose from. Its very difficult and competitive to join the military these days.

Not like the old days when you could just walk in and be on your way to boot camp in a few weeks.

  4. I agree historically Goliaths didn't play a big role in WW2. I would also argue that perhaps they were far too ahead of their time considering the role IED's, drones and soon to be robotics play in modern warfare.

The US Navy has just deployed a laser armed warship. Back in the 80's Reagan's Star Wars was the talk of the town.

The Germans for better or worse were ahead of their time. Jets, guided missiles, assault rifles, Goliaths.

Some were hits at the time. Some were misses at the time, but looking back they were ahead of their time.

  5. Im in the camp of whatever they feed me Ill eat. There are some games you just buy for whatever reason and Combat Mission is one of them. Fortunately I play them a lot some every day.

Some other titles I buy simply because I have such respect and played in the past. Gary Grigsby games Ill buy even if I don't play them as much as I like.

BF and Combat Mission to me is in that rarified space. The cult classic that you keep coming back to.

  6. Really, these days the old 'reading the manual on the toilet' excuse for preordering hard goods is kind'a old hat. You can upload the PDF manual to your tablet and go about your business just as easily. :)

Yeah with smartphones, tablets and .pdf u can go about business as usual, but there is something about printed stuff that some of us still like. Must be instinct.

I use my smartphone every day and its with me all the time. I use my tablet with wireless for youtube.

Yet I still have a book collection and like ordering printed manuals.

Elsewhere I see Gary Grigsby War in the West will have a separate printed hard cover book with additional background info and playing tips that I plan to purchase.

If BF did a separate book on its new Combat Missions and Black Sea stuff I would buy that in a heartbeat.

You should consider something with the likes of Bill H and others and do a additional manual/strategy and tactics book. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

  7. The ECM stuff could really put a kink into combat. In SF you fire a Javelin and a tank fries. Sounds like that may not always be the case and in the case of tank vs tank it may get interesting.

If you have Steel Beasts Pro try shooting at a tank using the laser range finder and then try it using the back up sights.

For the life of me I can't hit jack with the back up sights especially if the target is moving. I'm sure if I spent hours practicing I could get the hang of it. I just wonder how much in real life tank gunners practice using back up sights and how good they would be.

  8. Well, if you can show me a sniper that can shoot down a low-flying bird, then we'll start looking into this. Really.

The difficulty of precision aimed single fire shots hitting a moving target, at an unknown altitude and range is, well, very high. Lase it, you say? Um, sure. And a second later how good is that datum? Etc.

Iirc from a long time ago I saw a 60 minutes segment in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion where a Afghan using a Lee Enfield dropped a soaring hawk.

In all seriousness with the proliferation of drones there must be work going on to shoot them down.

Recently someone actually created a robotic falcon to scare birds away from airports. I could also see it being crashed into drones to knock it down.

Yes the challenges are immense, but superpowerful microchips are cheap and all sorts of components are being shrunk down.

  9. While I am not about to read the USMC out, it's a little difficult for me to envision a role for them to play in Ukraine aside from just providing more cannon fodder. While they are usually good at whatever job they are handed, they are specifically trained to make ship-to-shore assault landings. Such training is costly and should not be squandered on performing tasks more traditionally allotted to the Army. Having said that though, if the balloon goes up almost anything could happen.

    Michael

The same could be said about Iraq or Afghanistan. Using Marines also helps with unit rotation schedules. Unlike WW2 or Korea the US doesn't send units into combat and just keep them there for the duration.

The Marines have been to Russia once so it wouldn't be out of place for them to go back again.

  10. With the new GOP majority the A-10 isn't going away. John McCain will be the head of the Defense committee and he loves the A-10 so don't expect the A-10 to be deep sixed anytime soon.

With the new GOP House and Senate majority you can be sure the DoD outlook will be different.

  11. Probably too much for a small company like BF to take on at this time. I like the wego system as I can review the action and play at my leisure.

I can see the appeal of COOP, but its not for everyone. I have 14+ games going on at one time with all the modules and I wouldn't be able to handle it real time.

  12. Piston AR pretty much fills that role. Very nicely.

I've seen varying feedback on the SIG AR. Some love it, while others have commented the quality has gone down recently. I would have no issue buying a SIG AR.

I kinda think its a crap shoot-you sometimes get a lemon and you can't always believe what you see or hear. I have guns that others hate and have bad experiences with, but personally I've had no issues.

I like the .223/5.56, but I like the 7.62x32 more and the 300 AAC even more.

The SOCOM .308 is another fine rifle.
