  1. Why would i want to? In general I don't feel like having to justify why I would like to use a product I bought, no matter how out dated it may be. However i fear that CMSF2 may be lacking compatibility with CMSF1 mods such as the Taliban model ported from CMA and I also suspect that, since the reduced price CMSF2 is an upgrade afaik, it might require a functioning CMSF1 installation.

Correct me if I am wrong.

  2. Hello!

On the new website it says cmsf 1 isn't available for purchase anymore - but what about downloads for customers who purchased the game already? Are they still online? After BFC introduced it's "unlimited downloads" policy, I stopped keeping local saftey copies of my cm games installation files. I would be unhappy if I cant reinstall the game anymore.

LOL - Well, it looks like a longer range than yer average European "point blank" range.   Isn't that why in an average Euro-based game it seems logical that everyone should have been issued with SMG's and the rifles are a waste of time?

The avaerge Euro-Based CM game is a WW2 title, rifles sucked back then. But today, i would take an assault rifle instead of an SMG any time.

Real danger and the results onto ones mind.

Guess that the concern for ones (subordinates) health is the biggest factor in how military operations are commanded in RL versus in CM.

    Letter home in RL:

    "Dear Mrs,

your son died heroically in combat. He singlehandedly took out an enemy pillbox while throwing himself onto an enemy handgrenade, saving the lives of many of his comrades in the process. He is awarded...bla bla bla"

    In CM:

    "Dear Mrs,

your son died heroically, together with the rest of his platoon, when his commander forgot that he had ordered an artillery strike on the building your sons platoon was ordered to occupy."

    "Dear Mrs,

your son died heroically when his commander, a highly qualified soldier with 30 minutes of virtual military training, ordered him to charge through the killzone of the machine gun that had already killed the rest of your sons platoon."

    "Dear Mrs,

your son died heroically, together with the rest of his platoon, when his commander forgot that the enemy IFVs thermal sights can spot him through the smoke."

    "Dear  Mrs,

your son died heroically when his commander wanted to see if he can run faster than that enemy tank can turn his turret. Obviously, your son failed at his task, but nonetheless his death was judged as very entertaining by those who witnessed it."

    "Dear Mrs,

your son bled to death heroically, together with the rest of the wounded soldiers of his platoon, because his commander thinks that buddy aid is a waste of time and too much micromanagement."

  5. Wow 24 kills and 3 dead IFVs...not bad for a recoilless rifle team. Mine usually tend to not survive that long after making contact with the enemy. For far were they away from kill zone?

@Rinaldi: yeah, those are awesome screenshot. Very nice ;). I havent had any time to play lately but these pictures make me wanna turn on my PC and fire up a scenario so badly lol.

  6. 1) I remember that we had 1 or 2 discussions about GTOS, yeah. Try the forum search, you might find them.

    2) Legal...yes, i think so. IIRC you just arent allowed to post advertisement links to non-Battlefront products. But you should be aware though that this is a place where the fans of the Combat Mission series reside, so expect opinions to be biased. Discussions about whether GTOS or CM are better is a bit like discussing soccer with the fans of 2 opposing clubs, you know, there is a lot of bias, emotions and stuff. But yeah, it' s legal as long as the discussion stays civilised.

  7. Out of interest I have been following the development of the civil wars in Syria and Iraq closely for the last couple of years. Naturally i also took a look at ISIS propaganda because i wanted to know how the group sees itself. I did that once and never again - they are probably the most disgusting and sadistic political group that currently exists on planet earth. Now recently i read news of a new propaganda video showing the most barabaric acts of ISIS i have heard about yet. Read for yourself (dont worry, there are neither gore nor videos in the articles):

It' s almost beyond my understanding how ISIS or Daesh, as they are called in arabic, can get so much pleasure from killing civillians and POWs in the most brutal ways conceiveable. Reading news like this makes me feel thankful for the american aircraft currently bombing ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq and for all others who are currentlly resisting ISIS.

    • Fulda Gap:  This is number one on my wish list.  Fought this battle in my head a hundred times over as a kid growing up in the 60’s and 70’s.  Lots of possibilities here.  Think Sir John Hackett’s The Third World War.
    • Arab-Israeli Wars:  As something different, I’d be up for this one as well.

My personal favorites of your list. Particularily Fulda Gap would be cool. Just think of the possibilities of a Cold War CM title: how about a US/German REFORGER '85 campaign? Or how about Soviet campaign á la Seven Days to the River Rhine (image below):

That' s my wet dream in termans of CM!

  9. Well....  how much control do you really need?  In CMBN and the follow-on games you can split squads down into two or three teams with from 3 to 5 members each..

Sounds like you might want to look at ARMA 3 if controlling individuals is your cup of tea (I think you control individuals in that game).  There is a WW2 version too I believe.

Or Theatre of War, maybe. It' s basically like RT CMx2 but you can control single suqad members as well as whole formations of infantry. Personally i would recommend TOW2 Kursk, it' s my favorite of the series. You can buy the ToW games at the Battlefront.com store.

  10. John, the playback will freeze at less than a second intervals.. what I do is hit the play/pause button real fast as I get close to the event I want to capture, stopping and starting the playback in very short segments.. sometimes it takes several tries to get the shot I am looking for, but I always eventually get it.  Takes practice.

Hey, but how about a slow motion feature? THAT would be cool, wouldnt it?

  11. If I recall what I read right, this guy even used his Panther once. Sometime in the 70's. Helping out after a snow storm or something.

Yeah he did use his Panther multiple times, not just once. One time he was helping out after a snow storm and another time he was helping a neighbour with pulling his truck out of a ditch or something. :D.

In an interview with Der Spiegel the owner of the Panther recently said:

"I dont know why everybody is so excited, it' s just a Panther tank! Yes, i did crush my ex-wifes car with it and yes, i understand why my neighbours were upset when i went deer hunting with my Panthers 75mm gun in their forrest, and yes, i understand why the mayor was unhappy when i drove through a freshly paved road with my 40 ton tracked vehicle. But seriously, has a Panther tank ever hurt anybody? Well, yes, i know there are 27 kill markings on the 4 meter long barrel of the high-velocity anti tank gun, yes, buti assure you that noone has ever used that gun for anything but peaceful purposes."

  12. What is this world coming to?

Red Bull recently revived the Fliegerschokolade, a mix of chocolate and Methamphetamin, which was given to german Luftwaffe crews during WW2. The 2015 version of the chocoloate comes without any illegal substances, although it contains enough caffeine that a single piece could probably bring a dead horse back to life. I just had a 5 pieces and now i can feel my heart beat painfully in my chest and i have difficulty breathing, but damn, it tastes so good (really good), i am gonna eat another 5.
