  1. Hello, Umlat

I just downloaded your scenario. I have not played it yet but i did take a sneak peek at the map since i'm currently working on my first 'serious' attempt to make a map myself.

Very impressive work indeed...the amount of work you have put into that map is amazing !

    Good insperation...

I will try to finish my own map before i have a go at playing your scenario but it looks really good and judging by the rewiews it plays as good as it looks...

    Well done !

  2. Beautiful work. Ideal map for cutting into smaller pieces/smaller battles. Thanks man.

    Glad you like it...

Yes, feel free to use smaller part of the map in your own scenarios.

Put more stuff next to houses - looks too empty now.

That sure is one thing to improve, i agree...This map has still been sort of a learning experience...i have not done much work with the map editor until now.

For example i did not know what those numbers on the left side did when you seleted flavoured objects...i know now...many more flavour objects to choose from...nice !

I'm currently working on the destroyed version of this map adding battle damage to primeraly Tilly Sur Seulles and Lingevres. Besides rubbled buildings this map will have (as you suggested) more flavoured objects all over.

I will also correct the roads according to sburkes suggestions...I will keep a number of the modular buildings (not all) and add internal doors to thoose.

Once this is done i will upload a V1.2 of the non-destroyed map with a number of improvements...

    thanks for your suggestion

  3. Thanks sburke, for your comments and suggestions...

    Very nice RepsolCBR.

I like the undulations in the terrain, it really helps it from becoming billiard flat, adds more of a natural characteristic to the land. Nice job.

Yes...avoiding billiard flat was one of my major concerns. I hope this will work fine...:)

I will upload a V1.2 of this map in a few days. Your suggestions regarding the dirtroads will be implemented. I think i found the road-tile you meant...

    this one

    CMNormandy2014-01-1018-54-56-61_zps10db747c.png

I have spotted a few additional tweaks that will need to be made and i'm also considering making some changes to Tilly Sur Seulles itself.

I'm not perfectly happy with how it turned out. I think maybe i made a misstake in using modular buildings in the town instead of independent buildings. I think the modular buildings may look a little to 'big city' for this place.

I'm not sure though wich way to go about this. to change modular buildings like these...

    CMNormandy2014-01-1019-09-05-90_zps29ad4e50.png

    to independent buildings like these...

    CMNormandy2014-01-1019-18-17-69_zps236456f1.png

might look more like a small town.

One advantage with the modular buildings though is that they can provide an additional tactical option in the fighting for the town.

If i add internal doors on the first floors of thoose buildings then troop movement will be possible without exiting (into the streets) and entering every building (maybe simulating movement in the basements).

Either i will add internal doors or a will change thoose modular buildings (atlest most of them) to independent ones...

    Decisions, decisions...

Every suggestion people might have and observed misstake with the map will be apprisiated and might be included in the updated version...

  4. Maybe this one has been mentioned before but...

I think that an other feature that would be nice to have brought back from CM1 is

the ability to manually set the number of special weapons and equipment an infantry unit has with them.

This will reduce the unnecisary high unit counts in larger battles. If regular infantry squads could be allocated a number of sachel charges and hand held at weapons for example.

Breach-teams and AT-team units will not be all that necessary. Simply detach a breachteam or AT-team from the regular squads when you need them.

specific breahcteams and AT-teams could perhaps be better at what they are doing and be able to carry more of the special equipment (maybe 2 sachelcharges for a regular infantry squad is the max and 4 for a breach team for example).

  5. Oh man those last pictures looked really good - going to find the map now...

    Glad you like them !

I'm sorry but If i'm not mistaking there will be a short delay between when something gets uploaded to the repository and when it will be avaliable...I think a day or two...

When it is avaliable you will find it in the NORMANDY/MAPS section in the repository.

    Hope you will enjoy it

  6. Hello

I have uploaded this map to the repository. The map is named 'Lingevres - Tilly Sur Seulles road'.

Hopefully it will be avaliable shortely..

    Some details...

    - i have delibratelly put alot of gap-tiles in the low-bocage to make them more crossable by infantry. Armour will still be restricted though.

    - tall bocage will not have many gaps and will require engineers.

    - Not all...but many of the bocage-lines will have some parts that are elevated one level to allow supporting fire across wheatfields...bocageline to bocageline.

Hope you will be able to do some nice fighting on it...Some final pictures.

  7. Wow ! Thoose pictures are really nice...

For sure a VERY good map could be made using thoose...Using them with my current map would however mean an almost complete remake of the map. I just finished this one tonight (only minor tweaks here and there left to do).

I will upload this one tomorrow 'as is' to the repository but maybe i could trouble you for som help with photographs when i decide to start a new map project ?

    Best regards, Repsol

  8. This post has the link and instructions for the French map/aerial photos site. The site has changed a bit since then, but if you understand a bit of French you should be able to work it out. You can download the 1947 1:25,000 images for free. You just need to convert them into regular jpegs and then place them as overlays on your Google Earth area. Then take your screenshots and use them as another source image.

    Good luck!

    Hello, Broadsword56

I have been looking at the site but it is a bit complicated to navigate when i don't speak a single word of french...

I think i will try to google some pictures when i start my next project.

Many thanks for the tip though !

  9. Keep at it, man. we need the new blood to squash all the doomsayers. Looks sweet. Good work!

    Mord.

    Thanks, Mord...

The map is comming along nicely. I think i will have Tilly finished today and after that i will spend a day or two on final tweaking before i upload the map to the repository...

    WELCOME TO TILLY...

  10. Thank you, guys , for your kind Words...

This is good stuff, we are fighting our Tilly campaign to the east of here around Fontenoy and Juvignes and perhaps when this is released the RWR will make it this far...

    Los

You guys are most welcome to have a go at this map. I have been following your adventures to the east. It's a good read and i wish the Winniepeggers the best of luck !

    Outstanding work!

Did you also use the 1940s French aerial photos or just modern Google Earth?

It's really worth using the photos as overlay sources too, if you can, because the fields and landscape of Normandy have changed enormously since the war -- much wartime bocage has been removed, and the Caen area has seen lots of suburban development over the decades.

I'm sure Los will take great interest, since he's got a campaign going just nearby as we speak and using a version of my Juvigny-to-Fontenay map

With this map i have only used google-maps as a refrence but having aerial photos from the actual fighting sure would be a good thing...

Do you have any good links to where i might find photos like that or should i just google and try to find some ?

That maps has a great atmosphere about it. Very nice. Glad to hear the map editor isn't as hard to work with as sometimes said.

The mapeditor might seem a little difficult at first but if you just give it a chans i Think its realy nice.

The map-overlay is a great help, contourlines are easy to use and the linedrawing function for roads, bocage, fences and walls helps alot.

  11. Hello...

Better late then never i guess...I finally decided to try and make my own map with the editor. Until now i have only made some small testmaps but during the christmas - newyear holidays i have put my best effort into making this map.

I was hoping to have it finished today (work starts tomorrow) but i did not quite make it...almost though...

The map is rather large - 1200 X 1800 meters.

The location is the area between Tilly-sur-seulles and Lingevres.

The gamemap is as close as i can make it to the current-date google map of the area.

The only major task i have left to complete is to make Tilly-sur-seulles itself.

Everthing else is pretty much finished.

My goal with this map is to make two singleplayer scenarios about the fighting for Tilly-sur-seulles. As i understand it the major attacks against Tilly came from the northwest along the road towards Bayeux. I don't know if any attacks were made from the west IRL so these scenarios will be semi-historical.

In scenario 1 you will lead forces from the brittish 7th armoured division and the 56 independent brigade as they conduct a supporting attack from the area around Lingevres, west of Tilly-sur-seulles to help out the major attack

    comming from the North west.

In scenario 2 you will play as the germans and be leading units from panzer Lehr as they counterattack and try to push back the enemy from the area around Tilly.

These scenarios will most likely take quite some time to make so i thought that i might upload the map to the repository if some of you would like to use it as a QB map in a H2H game.

This first map will have no signs of combat at all. When i start making the scenarios i will edit the map and put some destruction on it and i will also upload the 'destroyed' map to the repository to use as a QB map.

The map will hopefully be finished and avaliable at the repository this week.
