I read that the new Graviteam Tunisia 1943 game will incorporate turn based and quick battle modes. Couple that with dynamic campaign and superior graphics and you'll get a game that is better than CM.

John, in real life Arena definitely can't do it, hence I'm not sure what type of APS is it supposed to be. When you select the vehicle prior to the battle it just says T-72B3 APS. On the second thought - it could also be a bug.

By "APS" on the T-90AM are you referring not to Arena, but the Relik ERA on the tank, by chance? If not, what do you mean? In a gunfight with the Abrams, to my knowledge the T-90AM has no system which will defeat KE.
In my battles I don't use T-90AM, only the T-72B3's and T-90A's. I don't know with what type of APS is supposedly the T-72B3 equipped, but in my current battle the APS on this tank has defeated Abrams round already twice. Let's see how long it can survive.

Try some realistic, "real life" setup: slightly more numerous, tank heavy Russian force, some vehicles with APS, drones, laser guided arty and a battery of Tunguskas vs less numerous mechanized US forces, no APS on the vehicles and the laughable SHORAD just like in the reality and tell me who wins

BTW, possible first combat use of F-35.
"During the same attack, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) also reportedly destroyed an S-300 SAM battery deployed near the Syrian presidential palace, on Mount Qassioun. According to the same unnamed French intelligence source quoted by Malbrunot, the F-35 aircraft finally overflew the palace of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, before returning to Israel"

LOL really? NOW you guys are gonna start respecting other gov'ts? Good lord this is worthy of a comedy act. Who's on first also known as What's today's excuse?
That's their standard line. Everything what Russians do is OK because they have been invited to Syria by the genocidal Assad regime. I hear the same scripted arguments on every forum, in every language I speak. Green man logic.

Does anyone know whether the Russians are using or will be using a new type of ATGM jammer, which is now operational in Syria?

If I'm not mistaken this is Syrian homemade jammer, not Russian.

Thanks for an informative as always reply Yep, the years 2003-2010 didn't do much good in terms of developing capabilities necessary for fighting the near peer adversaries.

That's a story all of it's own.....The Israeli 'Trophy' system was a serious candidate, but Raytheon apparently offered 'Quick-Kill' in the same time-frame. Squabbling ensued and nothing actually got deployed AFAIK.
Apparently Trophy for Abrams is being tested as we speak and we should expect some decision until the end of this year.

The Abrams has had ERA kits available and in service for like, ten years. They're not mounted for the same reason Russian ERA isn't "loaded" during peacetime, but the ability to mount ERA has been there, and there's enough ARAT to have wasted time equipping my BDE's old M1A1s to go sit in the motor pool in Iraq 2010 or so.
Are there similarly some APS systems available for Abrmas in case of any serious war?

Basically it sounds like the F-35 is shaping up to have catastrophically failed as a cheaper option to the F-22, and might not be the chosen plane to replace all planes, but gosh darned if it's not starting to work like it's supposed to sometimes.
Of course, in calling the F-35 out it's worth noting the PAK-FA is still literally catching fire sometimes.
According to the available data, the cost of F-35A is comparable to Eurofighter and Rafale, while Super Hornet is more expensive than F-35A. At the same time F-35B is 20% more expensive than Super Hornet. Mind you it's 5th gen aircraft vs late 4th generation planes. The whole F-35 program was hugely expensive, but the out of proportions unit cost is a myth.

"Carlisle, the head of Air Combat Command, said the top priorities for the deployments are to non-combat zones where the fighters can play a valuable role with respect to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations. That includes in Ukraine and NATO-allied countries worried about Russian President Vladimir Putin's expansionist goals".

I don't believe that F-35 will be deployed to Ukraine anytime soon. It is interesting though, what Gen. Carlisle meant by saying that. -

PT-16 was shown at Poland's MSPO defence exhibition late last year as a concept / demonstrator - subsequently it was a blogged upon and in turn was picked by other military blogs. Because photos and info are repeated between the blogs doesn't make it truer that production is assured.
+1
PT-16 isn't real. The additional armor and gun on this "demonstrator" are cardboard mockups. It's supposedly equipped with a Serbian engine ( Poland doesn't have the technology ) but it's not. People are falling for it, just as they were falling for the "stealth tank". It's just another attempt of Bumar Labedy of putting their hands on some state's money. I have to say they are really good in producing cardboard models. The Leopard 2PL modernization, which is made in a collaboration with Rheinmetall is real and promising.
-
PT-16 is just another cardboard mockup - not a real prototype. It's supposed to be a demonstrator of PT-91 Twardy modernization. Luckily this time none in Polish army got fooled and they just ignored it altogether.

Ivanov,
I thought the Beryl was obsolete, evidently not, but I think it's great Poland has created a whopping Territorial Defense Force and is giving it brand new proven weapons, too. This probably won't make the Kremlin happy, but I'm okay with that. What else is what sounds like our National guard going to have?
Regards,
John Kettler
John,
I wouldn't say Beryls are obsolete. And as you said they are reliable and proven, so it's rational to equip the Territorial Defense with them, especially when you need to build this force from the scratch in a short time. You are also right, that at least in theory the Territorial Defense is supposed to counter the possible hybrid threats, based on what happened in Ukraine. The MSBS will really enter the service during the next decade.

Ivanov,
I looked up Poland's small arms last year, but I appear to have not retained the info! The wag in me feels compelled to point out how impressive the Polish soldiers are and Poland's defense budget--soldiers immune to the toxicity of the rare metal beryllium and a nation with such a big (who knew?) defense budget it can afford to arm its soldiery with such super expensive weaponry! Did the Beryl jam up the PL-01 Stealth Tank's development?! If so, does the MSBS represent a return to fiscal sanity?
I just want to remind, that the stealth tank never existed. It was a mock up designed by a computer game studio, on the CV90 chassis. As for the small arms, last month the Polish MoD signed the biggest contract for Beryls since the end of the Cold War. 70 thousands will be delivered to the newly created territorial defence units. The MSBS is supposed to be delivered to the regular army units in about two years from now, but I'm sure there'll be some delay.

There are thousands of small hand-launched, short range drones in service, but as I stated before, a little more than 250 MALE class. Could you provide a link that would state something else?
-Predator 360 built in total since 1995, used by 4 militaries
-Reaper 163 built in total, used by 3 militaries
- Global Hawk - 42 built in total
Keep in mind the operational loses too. During the bombing of Yugoslavia alone in 1999, 25 UAV's were lost.
The drones are for sure the future of the aviation, but we're talking of what will happen in 20-30 years from now. To US Air Force has already a road map regarding the UAV development. -

You are aware that USAF operates a little more than 250 MALE class drones ( Predator, Reaper ) and about 40 Global Hawks?

Russia and Belarus are military allies and have a mutual defense pact. Thus Russia has troops and airbases in Belarus since many years.
Yes, but it seems that recently Lukashenko is trying to play a double game, distancing himslef from Russia. He feels threatened after Russian intervention in the Ukraine.
OT-Graviteam Tactics

Graviteam are known for their tank simulations, so hit chances and armour simulations are represented in a very realistic way. Not that CM is perfect in this aspect
On the down side, I'm not sure if the game will include multiplayer mode.
Ah well, so nothing new in that case. But at least the real time allows saving during the game. The players who know the system claim, that it doesn't require insane levels of micromanagement during the combat ( which is a big plus for me ), so the real time may be manageable. They also claim that it's all about planning, so the setup phase actually is much more important that the real time gameplay. Sounds intriguing enough to me.
