  1. I am running 16 GB RAM. Back in January I bought a new rig with a 3960X Hex core that runs @3.3 ghz ,with a turbo frequency of 3.9 ghz. Video: Evga GTX 580 with 3 ghz. memory. A cooler master 1200 watt power supply and an H-100 corsair liquid cooler for the cpu. I also wanted a rig that would handle the latest Combat flight simulators[Rise of Flight,DCS A-10, Blackshark2,Cliffs of Dover, etc] and race car sims.[project CARS,R factor 2 ]

  2. Up untill now i have been able to tolerate the non-curved zig-zag road patterns but I just got to CMCW mission number 6" Evil be to him". The main road along with other roads and terrain features are covered with these unrealistic Zig,zags and squares. The main road that runs the entire distance of the map is so hidiously jagged, that I just cannot take this battle seriously.

I hope someday we will have curved roads in CMx3? It is my only complaint of this otherwise superlative sim.

  3. I was able to achieve a minor victory against the German AI. Playing in WEGO Warrior mode. I was able to get enough units on Bourgebus ridge that I got the 1500 points for it. here are some other mission stats.

    GB German

    412 men O.K. 340 men O.K.

    243 men K.I.A. 400 K.I.A

146 men wounded 143 men wounded

0 men missing 14 men missing

104 tanks lost 27 tanks lost

9 Armored vehicles lost 51 Armored vehicles lost

0 other vehicles lost 12 other vehicles lost

Before I started the battle I placed all units on the far right setup zone and faced them in this direction. Then I moved all units on fast or quick to the right side of the map, except for a Squadron of Shermans that I left stationary to alternately target the Church Steeple in Soilers. Then I faced all units towards Soilers. I was able to get into Soilers at about the 30 minute mark. Then it was time to dismount some of the motor rifle troops to start taking some of the Buildings and the Church Steeple in Soilers. When I got a scout team to the top of the steeple I could see the dead enemy F.O. in the top of the steeple. The scout team could also see a nest of Marders and other Enemy units. Things really slowed down at this point. Trying to get all units through Soilers reminded me of getting toothpaste out of a tube. I had to resort to having my tanks blast high and low brick/stone walls in order to speed up traffic flow. As my units started to exit Soilers a Marder III was able to fire over the top of a high walled enclosure ??? and take out 3 tanks before I could eventually destroy it.

Once I cleared Soilers. I started going straight for the Village of Bourguebus. I also had a Church Steeple that I kept constant tank fire on. I tried to use smoke and Arty trough out the advance but still lost some tanks to 88's when they crossed over a road as they headed toward Bourguebus Town. I got into Bourgebus Town and beyond at around the 1 hour mark. About this time the first panthers of the LAH started showing up. No I started pivoting my Tanks toward them for a flank attack. One of my firefly's took out 5 Panthers including the LAH Division commander. Another Achilles took out 4 panthers. the AI then got wise to my flank attack and pivoted there PAK 88's towards my units and started destroying some of my tanks. Then I got my F.O. in the Steeple at Bourguebus and get more tanks to target the 88's near Bourguebus Ridge.

When my Tank reinforcements arrived there were only about 6 panthers left [that I could see]....So I figured what the heck and I just gave the entire tank reinforcement group a mass movement order through Soilers and then towards Bourguebus ridge.

I was then totally amazed to see those six panthers literally stop almost the entire Tank force in it's tracks. Then another 7 Panthers showed on the far left side of the map. However they kept heading South towards Four and away from Bourguebus ridge. 2 panthers also stayed near the map edge near Bourgues ridge. However they could not target all my units on the ridge

The terrain features of the map have many tricky undulations and ambush zones.

In hindsight I should not have given the mass move order to the tank reinforcments

I was able to call in an Air support mission but it's target had already been destoyed by the time it arrived.

    I really enjoyed this battle

Thanks to the folks at BFC for cookin up this masterpiece. It was so Colossal it reminded of a CMCW version of Man vs. Food

  4. I play in WEGO warrior mode. I have been using this mode since 2000 and CMX1. I do not consider this an age related issue. I tried playing a couple CMSF missions in real time and just could not keep track of all that was going on. I just like the way WEGO allows me to take more time to plan every move. For example I am currently play the Collosal Crack[mega units]battle. There are sooo many units in this battle that I have spent up to an hour planing 1 turn and reviewing the previous turn, and having and absolute Blast I must add! I have been playing this battle for over 10 days now just playing 3-7 turns per day.

  5. I am just getting ready to start this battle. I faced almost all my units towards the right side of the map. Gonna head near the right side of the map on fast or quick. Then face towards Soliers, shroud it in smoke and arty fire. Then storm into Soliers in hopes that some of the German guns will have less of an advantage at shorter range.

No way am I gonna try to send my units through that gap. Monty can take a hike!

  6. I feel Dunkurk would have been a very different outcome,if Hitler would not have played I'm the Boss with his Generals and ordered Guderian's Panzers to Halt for 3 days outside of Dunkirk. if the BEF would have been unable to evacuate across the channel would Britian have kept fighting?.........I think it is one of many cases where Hitlers stupidity and Goerings arrogance help helped the Allies win ww2....Thank goodness

  7. Bloody icons. Hate them; can't see whether my men are in a tree or behind a wall, in a field or in a house.

I first hated icons when I saw them in Theatre of War and what an awful gaming experience that was.

Why can't bases or units be highlighted as brightly as the icons? If I toggle icons off I can't see anything.

Sorry, but for me this (plus other UI gripes) means it just isn't an enjoyable gaming experience. Maybe those of you with great computers or those who are enthusiasts will see past all this.

As for the RTS clickfest, well ............

I guess I'll drift by the forum occasionally to see the interesting threads but I'm so disappointed. Time for the medication.

You might like the period based icon mod from our repository. I have been using it for some time now and find the unit symbols to be less blobish than the stock icons. For example the period based infantry icon is an upward arrow ,instead of the stock inf. symbol, which to me looks like the shadow of "Big Foot"...coming out of the forest.Just be careful not to mistake the some of the period based icons for tree trunks.

Sometimes I turn icons off in order to better view my units. I only play wego and can sometimes take up to 20 mins between turns. So pre- planing is crucial in this game mode..Where failing to prepare, is preparing to fail.

I hope you keep playing and enjoying this, what I consider a Great sim

  8. Well the vehicles require some management. Waypoints have to be chosen wisely, watch your speed when turning and know if your vehicle can corner worth a darn. Avoid making turns around objects. When doing a 180 degree facing change it is best to "change facing" before proceeding in the opposite direction. Giving a vehicle facing north a movement command to travel straight south will be disasterous for example. The vehicle will pivot in a circle and it can get ugly. Time your routes when in "convoy" movement so vehicles don't bunch, use the pause command and allow at least 5 seconds between vehicles. Routes need to be specific and use many waypoints. Simply picking a couple of waypoints to cover 500 meters will lead to disaster as the vehicles struggle to pick the corrrect route. Practice.

Thanks for these tips....I had not been giving my units facing orders before movement orders. I can see where this would save a great deal of time especially when playing in wego mode:)

  9. I did not realize this had been out this long. I was computerless for most of December when my old rigs hard drive died, R.I.P. 2007-2011. I did not get my new rig untill January 10th so I has missed the boat on this one. My new rig has an SSD , so hopefully I will not have anymore Drive failures.

I am already having some Graphical issues with APOS. The battlefield is just a solid light blue screen with unit symbols showing?......I'll try and figure that out today....

    thanks for the feedback, verulam
