  1. I've managed total victory as the Italians. Even when used to the Italian TO&E it's difficult, but can be done. In order to win big you have to use the Italians off map artillery to its maximum effect since pretty much everything else you have isn't powerful at longe range to overwhelm the Allied position.

  2. Finished the third battle (Onslaught) and achieved a hard fought victory. Since it was such a tough fight (Allied artillery was BRUTAL) I decided to reload the first turn and call a ceasefire so I could see what the Brits were throwing at me. To my amazement I won a total victory. Obviously, not what the designer intended. Not sure how to fix this problem, but some sort of victory condition modification is needed.

  3. I remember reading some statistics in history book that says the majority of the casualties in WWII is caused by artillery fire. Of all the hundreds of CM battles I have played so far, I cannot say I have won more than a handful solely on artillery. In fact, it is not as powerful as I expect it to be.

I would think that by the time you got to the type of fighting portrayed in CM artillery wasn't as dangerous as some think. FWIR most artillery casualties were from harassment fire (i.e. "let's take some shots there and see if anything happens", or "that looks like a good spot for the enemy to set up a strongpoint, let's blow it apart") since even in quiet areas, artillery was always shooting.

  4. While the time IS a bit short, a total victory is definately possible. The most important thing is to go for the victory zones using the path of least resistance (yes, there is one on that map). The important thing is to manage the traffic mess the constricted start area causes. Once you've got your forces moving full speed it's simply(?) a matter of the classic "overwhelming force" at one spot & you've won.

  5. I've managed total victory in this battle several times. The way to do it is to not to move too far forward too fast and not to try to clear the forest on the right side first, but simply bypass it and set up an ambush in the first bocage field past it. The US armour seems to always move to your right flank and by setting up your Panzerfausts at that angled spot you have a decent chance of killing the Shermans even before the Panthers arrive.

  6. I must admit that puzzles me too. A customer might have a valid reason to prefer buying from the App Store for all I know, but I haven't heard it yet.

The only even remotely valid reason I know of is for people who have serious trust issues downloading from "unknown" websites and thus feel safer knowing the App Store programs are "safe" from viruses/trojans/etc.

That said, since I never download from "Honest Jim's HOTTT warez .scam" I prefer dealing directly with the publishers & getting realtime support/fixes/sundry goodies and the like.

  7. I've seen that in one of the early KG Engel missions, in particular the one before Waffen SS units show up. With the new MG modeling, the player is really never in danger of being overrun, as the briefing warns. If ever there was a campaign in need of some revisions, it'd be this one.

In fairness to the system, after the first playthrough, I was never in any real danger of being overrun in that sceanario even before the change in MG effectiveness. It was simply a matter of putting the proper unit in the proper spot to get the kill zones set up and waiting for the AI to bleed itself dry. Tank ammunition was my biggest worry in that battle.

  8. I've seen armour go through man-sized gaps in hedgerows a few times (although I can't remember the exact scenarios). Always put it down to vagaries in the game system's handling of hedgerow gaps since you can also sometime blow gaps in hedgerows & vehicles can't get through those even though the graphic of the hole is wider than the vehicle.

  9. * SPOILER ALERT *

I'm just about to begin the 8th and final mission of this campaign. In the 7th mission I got a Draw, but exited almost all of my complete force. I lost two Pz IVs and a Lynx -- my only tank losses in the 7th mission.

The 8th mission has me surrounded on a hill and trapped.

Is there any way in this campaign for Engel to break out to friendly lines and win?

Been a while since I played it so I don't recall specifics, but the short answer is "yes". I managed victory. Requires patience and finesse, but it can be done.

  10. So why were the Brits so afraid of the invasion at the time?

One more reason that hasn't been mentioned was that virtually all of the British Army's heavy equipment had been left in France during the evacuation. That meant that there wasn't enough armour and artillery to refit the troops evacuated from France, let alone arm the new divisions being raised. Then there was also the home guard which was armed with anything available, including pikes.

A July 1940 invasion might have succeeded becase of the lack of heavy equipment, but that would have required the Germans to have planned Seelöwe in advance. By September I suspect success was no longer possible since the British had put their economy into full war mode and were producing enough to be able to rearm their forces and stop an invasion.

  11. I always go slow over obstacles with my vehicles. When I started plaing I went fast & my armour kept throwing tracks all the time, going slow I've been able to sometimes go over multiple walls, hedges, fences, without any damage at all to the tracks. One thing I have noticed is that the heavier the tank, the less damage it seems to take when demolishing obstacles.

  12. Go to the "SPECIAL" (S) menu and select "Open Up." There is no hotkey assigned by default, as far as I can recall.

The hotkey for "Open Up/Button Up" is "]". I tend to use it a lot depending on distance from enemy forces and whether the armour is closing in or doing overwatch support.

  13. I still have big issues with the 1.11 patch, even if I completely deleted the "Z" folder. I reverted to 1.10 (CW forces module) and all goes fine. But when I reinstall 1.11 patch, problems comes out again. British soldiers are shown with berets instead helmets, with no gear and no weapons. Some scenarios won't load (actually the game freezes) after the briefing screen.

Is someone experiencing the same issues?

    Thanks

As a follow up to my previous reply to the hotkeys problem, I'm also having these problems with the update.

  14. I am. My hotkeys, particularly for Hide and Pause are changed to "[" for Pause and "o" for Hide (which also corresponds for Target arc). I checked the hotkeys.txt and the alternative hotkeys.txt as Womble suggested elsewhere but just found this, which would be fine if only the .exe used it -

    Hotkeys:

    <E>P // pause

    <E>H // hide

    Alt Hotkeys

    <E>P // pause

    <E>U // hide

I've also reinstalled CMBN bundle to try to recover to v1.10, but when I go into QB I get CMSF equipment come up as sides - very odd.

It feels a bit surreal now - The problem with the hotkeys wasn't a gamebreaker, but wasn't intuitive as was the case before. I reckon I'm also going to have to do a complete uninstall and reinstall again to get rid of the CMSF stuff (Bizarre?).

I appreciate Battlefront doing the patch, but before I try to apply it again, I'd be grateful if they'd eithre do a hotfix or tell me what I need to do to fix the issue.

I second the Hotkeys problem. Other than that, everything was fine for me (so far).
