  1. Well playing around tonight there really is no need to restrict yourself to 5 facial types when you can add #6 (or 7 or 8...)

I merely named the following enlisted-basic uk soldier files from a 5 to a 6.

The modified files are changed thusly to 6.

    smod_british_coveralls-lod-6.mds

    smod_british_m37-lod-6.mds

uk-soldier-skin 6.bmp [added a mustache to the graphic]

    uk-soldier-skin 6_normal map.bmp

And the enlisted mustached UK soldier is relatively rare like 1 in 10. Not common at all.

I suppose if you want officers only with mustaches (or red head officers-or bearded officers etc) you play with uk officer mds files.

Joking aside-Tommie looked distinct from US soldiers.

So you can have a red head.:) Your CW soldiers will now look distinct from that rabble from the colonies.

    OH! What a lovely war.

Damned if I know what the K.R.s say about cookie dusters -Im'ma Yank.

  2. I made a mod of a telephone pole flavor object from CM: AFGHANISTAN for use in Sicily for FORTRESS ITALY

    http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=106953

And I know the telephone poles work in CM:Normandy. It's in the repository for FORTRESS ITALY. The screenshot of the M10 in Sicily (months before Gustav Line was released) has an M10 Tank Destroyer from the CM: Normandy demo that I hacked over. But the CM:N M10 was strictly in as a flavor object in Fortress Italy. The M10 Tank Destroyer can't be manned, doesn't shot and doesn't move and you can drive through it.

So yeah you can mix CM:N and CM:FI and CM:SHOCK FORCE/AFGHANISTAN together but there are some issues. Tried to import a n Afghanistan CM:A-stan mosque into CM:FI for a Tunisia Mod. I could get the lower structure to work-but the Mosque copula wouldn't show.

It's a crap shoot with some things.

  3. I'm just playing the Gustav Line demo right now and in the battle where the Brits are going to see the Elephant I realized that the weapons silhouettes haven't all been modified/updated [A]. No surprise since the first module didn't have CW forces and the demo just came out. I also notice the CW portraits and ranks to need enhancement . I put some weapon silhouettes from JuJu Tweaked UI mod for Combat Mission: Battle of Normandy into the Z file and some CW weapons appeared showed up [A] (BREN & PIAT). I suppose I could do that for the rank and portraits to.

Just checking if anyone is working on an enhanced interface for Gustav Line to tweak what is missing for the Commonwealth forces? Save me the trouble of cannibalizing mod files.

  4. Thanks. Just one little itsy bitsy detail to fix. What I uploaded will work-more of a visual correction. Notice the background of the camouflage behind American star with the yellow border and without the yellow border do not match. When it my original file gets uploaded to the Repository it will updated pronto with v1.2.

  5. Wanted to learn how to use the Magic Wand in Paint Net.

Below is the fruit of my labors. Screen capture of Force Choice screen in game and copy of what the files look like. Always hated that bland screen

Just uploaded to Repository. See if BF approves it.

It works in Fortress Italy (which I have) AND the Gustav Line Demo. Don't own Gustav Full game yet. But it should work.

brz format 'natch. Just drop in Z file when you get it.

Took awhile to get the Zimmerit mixture just right-so it shouldn't flake off. ;)

  6. Well whomever ended up with these in Africa was stupid. Real odd ball caliber today.

Not like you can raid a warehouse or steal from dead soldiers. But the suppliers of the firearms sure would have control over the buyers. ("Yes I can get that kurtz round but eh the cost per round went up 35%")

Great collector and conversation piece though (oooo-AAAHHHHH kewwwwllllll! Yeah it's on Youtube gawd i want that an MG42 blah blah blah)

  7. Jason C. Sorry to be the one to break the bad news to you.

    I know it's painful.

The Italians did well given their limitations.

Royal Navy and Regia Marina were worthy opponents. It wasn't Jack Tar vs Mr. Gipetto the wood carver. It wasn't some Victory at Sea-Why We Fight WWII documentary.

    Read the book I linked

It was a nasty nasty sea war. This typical-just as the Royal Navy had the upper had-and out comes some curve ball by Regia Marina.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Neptune_(20)

The Royal Navy had Taranto as a victory in 1940 and a year later Regia Marina has a victory Alexandria (12 days after Pearl Harbor). Carrier Ops and Special Ops. Things to come.

    Worthy opponents.

Royal Navy never destroyed Regia Marina. They had a flawed strategy-sea denial-not sea control. If the Americans had not shown up by 1942 the Royal Navy would have lost control of the Mediterranean both from Italian mines, the threat of Regia Marina surface vessels (small units were laying mines and harassing) and Luftwaffe. It wasn't strictly Luftwaffe that the Royal Navy faced.

    Nuff said.

  8. It's all here if you care to read about the Italian Navy in WWII. The author makes a convincing case that the Italians didn't really do that bad. Both Britain and Italy needed their respective partners (Germany and US) to bail them out. The Italian Navy didn't fold like a jack knife and a case could be made Britain lost Singapore because the naval assets that could have been used there where just being kept too busy by the Italians.

It was a very nasty naval war between Britain and Italy. Not quite a walk over.

The Italian Navy lost more ships-but was not wiped out and the British had to supply Egypt by the way of the Cape of Good Hope rather then through the Straits of Gibraltor-a 40 to 120 day journey as long as the Italian Navy was a belligerent

Damn Regia Marina just wouldn't fold and was a fleet in being up to the end in 1943-despite Taranto and Battle of Calabria-despite Royal Navy night fighting superiority (where most of Italian naval losses occurred) and despite lack of radar development and oil on the Italian part.
