  1. To some extent I dont blame Battlefront for keeping their cards close to their chest.... Every time they release info or a bone its like seagulls pouncing on a piece of bread in here By all means, release close to Christmas and ill be a happy chappy over my break from work.:cool:

  4. Im from Melbourne, also been playing CM since the early days... ahhh remember watching the first beyond overlord pics come out... Close Combat in 3D - only better... I havent played any form of multi-player (online) etc... in all that time... Being that you are from the Dark side of the moon (aka WA) kidding........... I think we may have a time clash with setting up a game..... Once Normandy comes along, i may warm to the idea of trying out multi-player. Cheers.
  5. Yes, but we heard that there were only loose ends to tie up this time last year and where are we now....!!! So it takes over a year to tie up loose ends? Having said that, I have faith in Battlefront....they always deliver, if not always on time

Im having the same flashing light (night battles) with my Nividia drivers at the moment that others have been having so im just hoping that is sorted before worrying about the graphics on release... Im confident that with the new engine - and European (temperate) climate, we will have a far superior looking game than the CMx1 series. Granted it may take a bit of hi-res modding to things like grass, undergrowth, trees etc... to see it really come of age. I just hope that we can at last have the foliage density that is required to create a realistic normandy setting - not least of all the birds eye views of maps to handle better and not have strange shapes.

  13. I would offer my services if I wasnt so busy at the moment... Our company is doing a 20 storey hotel in Tehran and I may have to work through the weekend.....Nooooooooo!!!:mad: Having said that, im going to have fun using some of the stone textures from ARROWAY once CM:N is released... Cobble-stones, Norman houses... CM:N is going to be great on soooo many levels.

Well from what I recall Steve saying right back when CM:SF was released was that the beauty of the new engine was to streamline releases and speed up the development process - that statement now seems well wide of the mark... Maybe for a particular Epoche / theatre it may be more streamlined but when a game is well over a year overdue from when it was initially expected to be released -still no forum etc... its a bummer - the waiting that is. I think trying to push through several titles at the same time is a bit of a pain... I would think releasing one at a time with a decent gap in between would mean bigger sales per release... i.e. I wont buy Afghanistan or Nato if CM:N is to follow shortly thereafter - whereas i may have considered them if they were already out and CM:N was a few months off... I totally understand trying to avoid the issues that came up from releasing CM:SF too early - namely make sure its tip-top....although the longer the wait it seems that the graphics, engine etc... will look a bit dated before too long... Dont get me wrong, I love Battlefront and CM:N is the most anticipated title for me in the last 5 years. However i only ever purchased CMBO in the CMx1 series as the graphics etc... just dated far quicker than BF could pump out the titles... I guess though, that over the years that I have matured (30 now) and I am more interested in realism in my games -however graphics too have their part to play in immersion....Immersion is the key...........for me.... A few bones or the announcement of the new dedicated CM:N forum would go a long way to tiding me over until release....
  15. Hopefully by the time the Ost-Front series of games comes out there will even be sewer networks to fight in as well... Outflank your enemies through the turd-tunnel... Disgusting thought!

Given that the initial release was slated for late 2009, and the handful of actual bones we've been given since then (hardly a handful), I think this re-writes the definition of keeping your cards close to your chest in Battlefronts' case... At least with no clear release date, I cannot count down the days until I officially become a hermit again... Reminds me of CM:BO release.
  17. When.....? A few days, a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks.....? When...? I want specifics....!!! Patience was never one of my strong points, but like a fine wine I am getting better with age.......I think.
  18. Well my system is off getting a clean up and an install of Windows 7 - 64 bit (I had Vista before)... Not that this will solve the problem, but hopefully I can start playing around with getting it to work come the weekend... Its like having your infantry setting off 1 million megawatt strobe-lights each time they fire - talk about ruining immersion...
  19. Now im having the same damn problem... I hadnt played CM:SF for ages which probably explains me not noticing the lighting issue on newer Nvidia Drivers earlier. I have played around with going back to older drivers - but regardless of this I seem to get a crash at a certain point into the game (say 20mins into the battle) then it crashes to a black screen with the sound stuck in limbo... I then have to restart the PC........ VERY FRUSTRATING. I have noticed varying degrees of the same problem however. The light given off by exploding Arty rounds gives off a realistic flash over the battlefield and buildings - whereas a simple burst of machine gun fire can light up the whole map like a christmas tree (light on buildings in particular). I have an Nvidia GTX 280 - what is the best driver to try out (I cannot remember which one I was using when CM:SF worked flawlessly). I know the 180.XX Drivers have been mentioned here, but is there specific one that people are using that is working seamlessly (if thats possible). I have been only having these crashes to black screen in games and not in other programs - so I assume its driver related and not my Graphics Card.

Well my copy of - Dying for Saint Lo: Hedgerow Hell, July 1944 arrived on Monday so that will help pass the time in waiting for CM:N to be released, then again I could wear out the book by then as well (yes its a hardcover too) I have enough WW2 history books to build a house with already, however does anyone have any recommendations as to any other books that have detailed maps on CM scale engagements so that it would be easy to build maps from etc... There are so many nowadays that fail to put a scale to the map and or are so pathetic that they look rather more like a childs hand painting rather than a map. Anyways, ive drifted waaaaaaay off topic! Back to waiting for CM:N and doing some work for that matter.
  21. Exactly...!!! Draw distances should be scalable for those of us who have PC's that can handle the extra pixels. Lets face it, its a 3+ year old engine now (albeit always evolving) but I fail to see how most PC's cannot run CMx2 well enough to have long draw distances. If depth of field was introduced that would save on prcessing power am I right...? things in the distance appear blurred - out of focus at ground level (realistic) and frees up PC power (my assumption). The density of forrests is another one - again Graviteam have done this very well in Achtung Panzer. Their trees are far from Hi-Res but are very very effective and add alot to immersion. I know this topic could branch off into any number of sub-topics and fix requests but even things like building damage (inclusive of different stages of damage visually depicted) and rubble could be done better... I would be happy to model it all for free...!!!
  22. I brought this up a while back under my previous Username: Götz von Berlichingen but with the Forum issues I have been away for some time. I have seen some of the early CM:N pics with the temperate climate vegetation and already I am happy that we will be out of the desert. Steve had said that there were going to be improvements with the vegetation, trees etc... Will they now be 3D instead of RPC that follow the camera? One of the big LOIF's (Loss of Immersion Factors) in CM:SF and I guess any other CM game is the ugly landscape when in a zoomed out aerial view. There are plenty of game developing companies out there that have created very convincing - low poly trees and bushes - that very much add to the immersion of the game. Achtung Panzer - comes to mind as being great in this area as it can show vast forrests with little impact on frame-rate. Some of the vegetation in CM:SF does look ok and ground level but I am forever reluctant to zoom out (which lets face it is necessary) as it ruins the immersion. Immersion is king...along with the obvious good gameplay there is to be had in CM games - it will keep you coming back for more. I do quite a bit of 3D Architetural modelling so I can to some degree sympathise with how large areas can chew up processing power + RAM very quickly - although it would be nice to see if these areas are being looked at to be improved apon etc... P.S. The same goes for buildings etc...
  23. For what its worth I thought I would add my 2c worth to the Operation / Campaign debate... Back in the day when I received my copy of CMBO that I ordered on release, I thought all my Christmas' had come at once - finally it fulfilled my desire to see a Close Combat style game in 3D. I hate to think how many hours, days, weeks that I sat in my own little world, living out my WW2 fantasies - both playing and building scenarios / campaigns. I did love the fact that in CMBO that you could continue over a map fighting over several days - as others have mentioned here, it gives you the sense of achievement that in some ways the built-in campaigns in CM:SF lack. I must say that I havent as yet played around with the editor in CM:SF at all (probably due to the modern setting again), but is it not possible to say build a series of maps and maybe partially replicate / overlap the edges for continuity sake so that when you are advancing on a given map and you win the battle - the next battle will start off on the edge you last finished on in the previous engagement - but continues with this next battle. (I hope that is easily interpreted) I.E. Battle A) Objective is Hill 112 - you fight across the map to achieve said goal. Battle Assuming you captured Hill112 the map starts on Hill112 and you have to fight over the hill and beyond etc... etc... Would that not be the same as say having the Operations we had in CMBO? You would have the feeling of continuity and fighting across a joined landscape. I guess that leaves the issues of carrying over battle damage from one set battle to the next (both to the landscape and to your forces) but then that is down to how hard it is to code and/or issue with AI unit placement in craters etc... that was mentioned previously. Also bringing back the stats of what unit did what in battle would be great, im not saying go to the extent that Achtung Panzer does by showing each and every shell hit (both kill + deflection) or even awarding medals - but a simple kill ratio and what unit killed what would suffice - I.E. Tiger '5' killed Sherman '3' + '7'. Having said that, going the way of Achtung Panzer would be cool.
